three years ago our rescue rehomed a lovely lab called Scrappy Doo anyway a few weeks ago the family rang to say they couldnt keep him any more, one of our volunteers went to pick him up,I was amazed when they arrived here scrappy was massive he had been killed almost with kindness,he was like two dogs in one.
well it wa s hard to get a family to see throught the fat dog to find the lovely boy he is big gentle teddy bear,at first he had no energy but eventually he managed a walk up and down our garden which is 3.4 acres well at last a lovely family came even the pictures did not prepare them for what he was like.
to cut a long story short Scrappy went home with them  they say he is so obedient and so well behaved a lovely boy  I said they may get comments when they go out with him but they dont mind, they say they just look at his gorgeous face and love him.
now for it.
Scrappy weights 65 KG t(en stone )he is now on a strict diet and with a lovely family to see him through he will make it.
what I want to say is that we see our share of starved dogs but its just as cruel to overfeed as well.
we are having a sponsored slim for Scrappy doo which will coincide with christmas his target is  25 KG by christmas and the money will go to christmas for the unwanted dogs at our sanctuary if anyone wants to join in please email me on
labrador.rescue@btinternet.com

ps hope this is ok Admin

First news was. received  31st October

NEWS ON SCAPPY Doo  Hello everyone,

I thought I would just give you an update on Scrappy's progress.
If you remember he weighed 65.45kg (or 10 stones) when he came to live with us on the 11th August. We have been to 'weight watchers' again on 28th October and he now weighs 55.35kg or 8 stones and 5 lbs.

He is still a big boy with plenty more to lose but his shape is improving rapidly, but best of all his fitness level is much better and he can go for long walks. He REALLY loves swimming and will hurl himself into Hollingworth lake with great enthusiasm (he doesn't seem to notice his family wringing their hands in a state of high anxiety on shore line!)

He is so sociable, he has a smile and a wag for everyone. We have two cats and he wags his tail whenever he sees them. But his favorite hobby is sleeping - we never knew a dog could sleep so much. When we first brought him home he could'nt lie in his bed because his tummy was too fat to allow him to curl up but now he can curl round into a (large) ball and he sleeps and sleeps, he just loves his bed!

The vet is VERY pleased with his progress and has mentioned him being nominated for slimmer of the year award. We will help him to write his acceptance speech.
On a serious note, if he is successful in slimmer of the year the prize is £££££ to purchase doggy essentials and we intend to give the ££££ to the Labrador rescue so that they can carry on their wonderful work.

We will keep in touch and once I master the technology I will post some photos of our lovely golden boy on the website.

He will be weighed again on December 16th so everyone who has been good enough to sponsor Scrappy in his quest to become slim can work out how much money to give to labrador rescue.

Take care

Love from Scrappy and his doting family."""""

We received this today for all those who wanted to know how he was doing :

""""Hello everyone,
Just thought I would give you an update on Scrappy's progress.
Today we took him to Hardcastle Craggs. For those of you who don't know the Craggs they are a fabulous place to walk, either just for yourself or for your dog. There are miles and miles of woodland tracks, most of which follow the river (Hebden Water) which any self respecting labrador will jump in every few minutes.
Today was the first day that Scrappy has actually run
He has gradually become much fitter and for the last six weeks or so managed to keep a brisk trot for at least one hour but today he RAN AROUND. Backwards and forwards for most of the two hours we were there.
He is still a seriously big boy, in fact when he was running around in front of us he looked as though there were two or three dogs in one skin because all his fat was wobbling around so much.
He is lovely
His next weighing is in December so we will be in touch.
Take care and thankyou for all your good wishes for our golden boy.

A big credit  should be given to his dedicated owners.

I had to look twice at the first post.  Ten stone!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky lab having you.  Just imagine the stress on his poor body at that weight.

Good job, for ignoring his eyes, that must look at you thinking you are starving him to death, LOL.

What is his diet nowadays?

The funny thing that makes me smile and Im not slim  ;)   is  the people say Large people who come here for a dog and say oh dear you need to get weight off (to the dog not me LOL ) and I think yes and so do you.
Its amazing how many overweight people only see their dogs as overweight and first thing they do is put them on a diet instead of getting theold walking boots out and getting the excersisegoing.

 - I know there's more of me than there should be, but where did the extra post come from?

He He..... his new family were slim to begin with but avid walkers and live in doggy heaven, he now lives near a canal, which of course to a Lab is WOW, they have been so committed to him and of course he now has a wonderful new life, and is much healthier for it.

Hi the sponsorship was just till christmas but they have quite a way to go yet after I think target weight is 35 KG will check though as he is a big dog anyway and that would make him half the dog he was its a total credit to his owners they have had to be firm but kind for a treat he gets brocolli I believe :) :)
