Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog attacking our dog

Hi all,

there is a dog who's house backs onto the street where I live.  It has a 7 foor fence around the yard, but as soon as it hear another dog it manages to jump over.  Today we had someone come to our door and our dog went out to greet them.  this dog heared her and jumped over, and tried to attack our dog.  She is a wimp so she tried to run away.  This dog was snapping at her though.

I'm really not sure how to handel this situation.  It is not the first time this dog has attacked dogs in our street (just the first time with ours).  there are a good few kids around here, but it doesn't worry about them, just the dogs.

Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

Hi Blossom
I would ring the Dog Warden if they dont do anything I would ring the Police ...R.S.P.C.A and il tell you why some years ago same as you there was a dog a couple of streets away just the same. One day out with my little Norwich he came from nowhere and attacked my dog as a result needed 40 stitches. The dog is a MENACE!!!!! I would act now!!!

Blossom,

As Leomad says I would report the dog. Just 'cos it doesn't bother the kids doesn't mean it's OK.
What would happen if it attacked a dog the one of the kids had and the kid tried to stop it?
It might not be so child tolerant then. The owner obviously knows there dog is a nuisance if they have a 7 foot fence in the first place.
What 'type' of dog is it??

we had a similar situtation near us with a gsd.more than once it got out and they knew it was out but made no effort in getting the dog back in.
we contacted the warden but they wouldn't do any thing unless it was out roaming at the time of the call.the only thing you can do is contact the police if you think this is a danger to others.this gsd was as i have seen it chase kids away from its house and on bikes.put it this way i would not have gone near it with a barge pole and im not scared of dogs.as soon as it looked at you to was setting you and had a go at me on the lead once.
it is very hard but some one could get hurt kids, dont think about nasty dogs.mine are the worse they would go up to any given the chance.
this is what i said to the warden but it didn't help............get hurt before they act(great)
if i was you go to the police they will send some one out to catch the dog and the owners will be told to secure the garden etc,or deal with the issue correctly.
hope it helps
