Just a thought, i have always classed my house as an open house to anyone who wishes to learn more about certain breeds of dog, and was wondering, how many people on here are the same?
Im not a breeder, although i have considered breeding in the past, im just an owner of many bull breeds, but i have always invited people into my house to spend some time with my dogs if ever they have wanted to gain knowledge on the dogs that i own, i dont know if this is a good thing, but i like to think that its helpful to people that show an intrest in my dogs.
Just wondered about your thoughts on this.
Dean
We are much the same, people always asking to pop in and see dogs and if I have the time it's no problem and keeps the dogs socialised too, sandra.

I'm with you on this one Dean. I always invite people around to see my dogs, if they are looking to get one in the future or are just not sure if the bullmastiff is the dog for them. I have had some lovely people around who have gone on to buy a bully and i've had people who have deceided that a bully is not for them, which i'm pleased about as it means one less in rescue.
So yes, open house here too.
Karen.
I've had people come into my home that were thinking of having a Boxer
and weren't sure if they would be allergic etc. Turns out they were fine and
they got a puppy from a different person ( I've only bred one litter myself)
I've also taken one of my Boxers with me when doing a home check for my 'local'
Boxer rescue. Which in one instance helped the family decide that they wouldn't be able to cope,
as their youngest son was frightened of my calm Boxer.
Even though the rest of the family were ok and the home and garden were ace for a dog.
So yes I think it is helpful if you can spare the time :)

we are on a club list,so if any new owners want to see the dogs in real life before they get a pup they can.makes them understand the size of dog they are taking on.as a cute leo pup doesn't stay that way for long.plus our boy is a big one for his age so it shows them what they can be in size.it is also a way of showing them what they are like with kids and other pets as we have both.
plus toby will say hello to any one who walks through the door then trys to get them to play.lol
but i think it is inportant for people to see the dogs in real life before they get a pup. alot better than info you can get on a breed.

yes we are always happy to show people just what the breed is like in a home environment and the difference between the dogs and the bitches. Sometimes people are put off once they have had a real 'belgian welcome' and seen the sheer amount of HAIR that comes out at moulting time !.

I think its a great idea if it gives people an insight into what another breed is like. I just love gaining knowledge of other breeds :D. It would be a great idea for people who are considering a certain breed but don't know many dogs from personal experience.
