Topic Dog Boards / General / Sign of a good kennel?

Well, we arrived back in Manchester at 6.30 last night after an hour delay, and went racing straight across to Formby to pick Sparky up from his kennels, convinced that he couldn't last another day without us. When we got there he looked so grown up, and was really excited to see us. It was as if he couldn't quite decide who to go to, though, us or the people who had been looking after him. He made as much fuss of them as he did of us. He also tried to go straight to the exercise/training area for a run. I was so pleased as this must mean that he was reasonably happy there, mustn't it? He looks lovely, well groomed, coat gleaming, and is straight back into his routine this morning (ie - gets me up to play, then promptly falls fast asleep here at my feet!). I hope this is the sign of a good kennel - I was so nervous about leaving him, but he seems to have had a fine time.

Isnt it a relief... To find a good Kennel. We all need holidays now and again and to leave your dog/dogs with someone you can trust. Ive experienced kennels in the past, when picking up my dog they stink and look awful I have found a great kennel where my dogs love and know as they swim there regular. I know all dogs can fret when we go away, to me a good kennel and a good vet go hand in hand.

thats great which kennel is it I get asked all the time to recommend kennels.
We had a dog brought back to rescue because horror she was in season she came in the gate wagging her tail never gave the people a second glance so i figured she hasbeen very happy here
I am always happy to recommend kennels

It's West Lancs Canine Centre, on the Formby by-pass. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. We go to training there, too, so I think this helped as it was familiar ground for Sparky. What I like most, apart from the time the dogs are given socialisation and exercise on the big fields, is they go home with the trainers, they aren't left in the kennels overnight, so if you have a soft wuss like our Sparky who likes being inside, it's perfect.

By the way, Mattie, did you rehome a yellow lab last week? There was a new one at Rosemary's club on Weds who had come from lab rescue.

Now you're asking! Can't remember as there were quite a few "newies" there. He was about 6 months old, though, with a lady and a little girl with dark hair who wore glasses. He'd been muzzled almost permanently, by all accounts, and they were having to try to teach him to lap water :(.
