Hi,
I have a six month old SBT.
We are moving home very soon, and wondered if anyone had any tips.
I just wondered if anyone has experienced this and if anyone had any problems?
I may just be worrying about nothing.
Thanks
Ashleigh

I moved about 3 years ago to where I live now and before that the dogs (only had Bonnie and Chuli) moved twice in about a year to a year and a half span. I lived in one place for a few months and the other for almost a year. Both were nice, county spots. My dogs acted like they didn't even notice. They absolutely weren't bothered at all. Maybe they wondered where they were for about a day or two but got on just fine. The Lab was already about 9 years old and the Chi, I didn't have until the 2rd place I lived. This was in transition from moving from my long standing residence to here in another state where I bought a house. But when we came here, they just melded right into the place like....no problemo. But I suppose it depends on your dog's temperament. Does he seem nervous about new things or changes? Is he extra sensative to his enviornment? At any rate, I wouldn't worry much at all. Dogs are such adaptable creatures when they're secure with you. I think he'll be just fine. I bet you're excited to move.
The only tips I can think of would maybe be to try not to leave him alone for 3 or 4 days and spend extra time with him, so he really feels your presence...that he knows you're there and will feel secure.

We moved on the 5th July with our 9 month old and nearly 2 year old labs. I was really worried about it as we've moved to a smaller house with a smaller garden. Irrational though it is, I imagined they'd be wondering, "Why has mum taken us away from our lovely big garden?" Well, they didn't! :D :D :D They're absolutely fine, and enjoy playing in their new garden just as much. As long as they're with they're humans, they're happy. Best wishes for your move, and enjoy your new home.

Im sure they wont be too upset as their mum and human family will still be with them :)
Dogs do adjust - look at rescue dogs who are fostered and then permanently rehomed. The majority cope with the move well

Hi Ashleigh,
My father was in the Forces so we moved house roughly every 18 months to 2 years, pets and all! What we did was, on the day of the move, secure the dog and cat into a previously emptied room while everything else was loaded into the van. Last thing was to load them into the car and off we went, to repeat the process at the other end (once that was 2 days drive away!). The cats weren't allowed out of the new house for 2 weeks, but the dog was immediately taken for lead-walks around the area to learn the lie of the land. We never had any problems.
Hope this helps.

Hi!
Thank you all for the response!
I didnt think I had an awful lot to worry about.
The best thing about this move is, we are in aflat at the moment and the only time Max can go in the garden is on the lead (the gardens are shared and are not all that secure. there are 3 gates!
The new place, however, is a house and has a lovely garden for us and Max! We wil be so happy seeing him running round in his new garden without a care in the world. It is very secure.
Thank you all again!
Ashleigh
It's amazing how dogs appreciate more space and freedom, we have an okay sized garden, but we went to my sister-in-laws new house at the weekend, which has a huge garden and Obi just loves running up and down for ages - looks like Max won't need a walk for a while!!!!
My sister has lived in 4 different houses with her Westie, and prior to that he was in a pet shop, then bought and living with my brother-in-law's friends until they realised they wouldn't be able to keep him and at the age of about 5 months, my sister volunteered to have him (for good this time!) - so he came to her having been moved 3 times and then she proceeded to move a further 3 times in the next 6 years (i.e. the 4 different houses - I've made it confusing, haven't I!!)
Anyway, he never seems to mind moving, I think like someone mentioned above they may find it strange for a day or two but I think you'll find that as long as you're there - that's all they worry about! And if you're there then they'll move anywhere with you and be happy...coz they luv yoooooo! :-D

I think Max is going to be fine in the new home.
He adapts to different places very quickly and lets face it, the garden is more practical!
Thank you all again
