Anyone got any magic tips to keep the hair down.  Just spent anaother hour hoovering and it will look just as bad tomorrow!!

I brush him every for about 10 mins every other day with a 'pin' (?) brush and that gets handfuls of hair out.  Any other tips?  Is there a different brush I should be using?

He keeps himself looking very clean and is very rarely bathed, would this make any difference?

He is worth it though! :)

Hi

I have a newfie who is very hairy and we brush everyday aswell, we also bathe about once a month in summer and this seems to get rid of a lot of hair. In this weather he would probably love a bath. I have also found that using the brush on the carpet helps it to come up if it is really bad.

I spend ten minutes scruffing round the house in my trainers to try and lift the hair before I hoover!   And its hard work in this weather.

Try having 2 Malamutes ;) Everything here is covered in hair 30 minutes after I have hoovered and I hoover every morning :D :D

6 dogs = lots of hair in this house :-D  It's something we live with.  We hoover every day and once a week, I brush all carpets with a rubber brush.

3 Elkhounds and a Shiba...carpets are blue for about 10 minutes after hoovering and grey for the rest of the time!
Thinking of recarpeting...in grey!

I can identify with you, even though we have labs, the hair mounts up. I replaced some of my carpet with wood flooring  and it is brilliant.

I've given up ad accept that my after 30 minutes my carpets will be black again, otherwise I'd have to go on Prozac.

What about buying a coat king? Can you use them on Goldies? They are about 20 pound  but I think they are well worth the money! They get rid of alot of hair, and keep the dog  looking neat & tidy but they can & do cut the coat unless used with extreme care.

Hi Goldies will moult generally twice a year but obviously in very hot weather they lose some more.
10 minutes brush everyday is enough its just one of those things of owning Goldens

However all 4 of mine are not too bad and don't loose vast amount of coat but they are outside probably alot more than yours.

Although I think i'm right in saying labs moult worse than Goldies despite shorter coats ,could be wrong:-)

Briony who spent part of yesterday inside the large dog kennel with a chair and table plus book lovely and coolest place in there as made out of double brick complete with diamond leaded double glazing door and window.

I only use coat king very rarely and for one particular dog with a tremendous thick double coat which I use just before showing wouldn,t recommend for ordinary use use incorrectly they can make a mess of a coat:-)

Lol lol lol lol.......I got a kick out of that!!!! I can surely relate. I'm a neat freak and live in a small house with four dogs. Thankfully, only one is the really messy one, the Lab.

What is a coat king exactly? I have a Labrador who sheds all the time and a lot. I use a horse curry brush which has blunt rubber teeth around the perimeter, a couple rows and there's a little gap between each. It doesn't look like it would do anything, but it's absolutely amazing how much hair you can get out. But what's even more amazing is that since it works sooooo well, how come I still have to vaccum every day and sweep my kitchen floor 2  - 3 times a day???? LOL! A-h-h-h, but they're worth it. (I guess)

Hi Tim
We've had Goldens for 25 years now so I know the problem I tend to use a comb now as I used to use one of those harsh brushes but I'm sure it caused an attack of excema.I've just invested in a new hoover and I can't believe how dirty the house is, I have to empty it at least once a week. Its just full with dogs hairs don't you just love em.

Yep! Used to it here too with my 4 Goldens, it rolls up the hallway like tumbleweed!! I have to hoover at least twice a day when they are shedding.  We use a rake type comb.

Bless them - wouldn't be without them.

Hi,

When I have all 4 Goldens in the house beacause I hoover twice a day any way down stairs 4 children also guess the hair doesn't get chance to build up so don't notice it.I'm sure I would if I didn't but the children are messier than the dogs:-)
Also had Newfounland alot worse.
