what is the earliest age it is advisable to put a dog onto 2 meals? Max is 3 months and eats at 8am 2m and 8pm. He does eat it all but to be honest I think I could put a bowl down every hour and he would eat it. The owners of Max's 2 litter sisters are only giving 2 feed now but if I am late with Max's lunch he is frantic. What age opinions please?

At 12 weeks I have only JUST put Delta onto 3 meals a day (same times as you) ...I won;t reduce her to 2 meals a day until she is about 6 months old :)

yes I did think it was a bit young. Also people who feed complete dry food do you stick to what it says on packet for daily allowance? Somebody told me that they over estimate the amounts needed?

Oh dear have you had any children? Puppies like babies need feeding every few hours when tiny I remove a meal when my dog indicates it is ready to go further between meals I don't have "cut off" times per se as I have found dogs rarely read the books...... :D
Most dogs are ALWAYS ready to eat........... :D

yes thank you I have four children? Not sure what thats got to do with it? I have fed max all along by the breeders instructions. He is very happy and has a nice round puppy appearance. He doesnt need to be fed every 3 hours as he is quite capable of eating enough at 8 2 and 8. My only concern was as his 2 litter sisters are now on 2 feeds I was worried I was over feeding him as his sisters seem fine on 2 meals.

Frequency of feeding does not necessarily equate to amounts!
Hi Katy
Luna, my lab, was put on 2 meals a day at the age of 5 months. THis was a necessecity (sp?) as I wasnt home to give her the lunch one.
I tend to follow the label on the bag. Although these days Luna gets a lot less as she gets 2 kongs when I leave for work.
But aslong as you can feel his ribs and he has a waist then its okay. That's what John and others on here kept telling me:-)
