Less food, more excercise

Being overweight will increase health problems, yes

Of course being fat will affect her health, just as it affects people's health. In fact many vets reckon that being overweight can take about 3 years off a dog's life.

What breed is she? What do you feed her? Cut out all doggie treats, all 'human food' titbits, and cut her dog food down by a third. At the same time increase her exercise.

She'll thank you for it when she can enjoy life properly again!

My friend is looking after a jrt.  It is one she bred and is looking after it while the owner has treatment.  Last time we saw her, she was slim and enjoying life to the full.  This time, she has put on weight and as my friend says "has lost the spark".  It could have something to do with the stress her owners were having but I imagine it can't be comfortable being overweight.

This is something that really makes my blood boil. There is no excuse for a fat dog. It cannot feed itself so the owner is solely responsible for the animals plight.
There is nothing simpler than dieting a dog, give it minimal rations, and ignore the sad eyes, it goes straight over my head. More excersise, yes, but don't over do it till some of the weight is off, or the thing will probably have a heart attack. It is cruel to keep a fat dog the cure is in the owners hands. Get cracking.

It's easier to put a dog on a diet, than yourself. Now thats what I find hard :D :D
Seriously though you have to be cruel to be kind, your poor dog will be much happier carrying less weight.

Mitch.
