Topic Dog Boards / Health / Diarrhoea / charcoal?

Hi all

Os is suffering from a bout of diarrhoea but otherwise seems okay.  We've starved him for 24 hours and he is now on plain rice for a couple of meals but I want to add some charcoal.

I am sure that I have seen a link (online vet pharamcy thing) where you can buy the charcoal for settling tums but I can't find it now.

Any pointers?

Cheers
Jayne

Charcoal does nothing to settle tummies it is just supposed to absorb gas produced in the intestine ......................

You would be better off IMHO adding live natural yoghurt to his rice and some Tree Barks Powder from Dorwest...................

That's wierd.  Whenever my SIL's Husky has an upset tum the vet always prescribes charcoal for him and it clears it up.  We've used it before on Os to good effect and I've run out :(

I'll check out Dorwest though - thanks

This may help if you want to go the charcoal route

Thanks for that tohme.

Poor baby he is!  He looked at me as if I were mad yesterday when I fed Eb and not him!  LOL

My Cavalier pup has Colitis, we put charcoal in his food and he is doing solid poops! It only cost £3 from the pet store.

Hi

I have tried the natural yoghurt on tohme's advice and it worked a treat. We used it for about a month (a tble spoon about 3 times a day) and she hasn't had a bought of squits for over 3 months. It made everything solid within 2 days of using so can reccommend it as another possibility, also my Izzy loved it and was a bit miffed when she didn't get any more.:)
