I love these dogs, and hope to purchase one, but i have a question:
Do they range as far as setters on walks?
will they run off and not come back when called?
how are they to train? do they pick things up quickly and respond quickly?

thanks to anyone who answers!

I am sure a Munster person will come along and give more info but the ones I have met, and I have met several, do indeed have a very wide range as they should being a member of the Hunt, point and retreive sub group of gundogs (HPRs).

Any breed will run off and not come back when called if you they are not adequately trained.

There are one or two competing in Working Trials and Obedience and several successful in Gundog Working Tests.  One of the reasons some breeds are deemed "difficult" to train is precisely because they pick up things quickly and are responsive.....................

They are, however, a completely different kettle of fish from any of the setter breeds!

Hi guest. I have owned Munsters for 14 years and have had everything from the 'I'll do as you say, mum' from the word go to the 'I don't hear you!' dog. They can range quite far (how does the other side of the next field sound?)

Saying that, once you start training them it does usually only need once to show them how something is done, as they do love to be trained. They are happier knowing just how far they can go with you. So don't let them away with anything once - you'll be regretting it for the rest of their lives!

I now live with 3 Munsters, aged 12, 6 and 2. I will be getting another one in Jan/Feb next year (hopefully) so they can't be all that bad, can they :D I really wouldn't have another breed. They are so lovable (and mucky, and wet, and .......) no , if you want to know more let us know where you are and we can arrange for you to visit some. New owners are encouraged, but be aware that we will try to put you off. ;) If you still like them, then you've probably found the right breed. :)
