Topic Dog Boards / Health / 2nd Season

My bullmastiff seems to have her 2nd season, some blood and she appears slightly swollen. She had her 1st season in March when she was 9 months old and is now having her 2nd at 13 months old. Is this irregularity normal and will her seasons settle? I am only concerned as far as I had shows for the next three weeks and obviously that quite alot of money to waste. If her seasons are likely to be irregular is ther any way to predict them at all? Thanks for any help, Sam.

Hi Sam, she can't be irregular if this is only her second season, it can take 2 or 3 seasons to settle into a pattern but some bitches never do. It could be that you bitch will cycle every four and half months or she may settle on 4 monthly or 6 monthly or even and perhaps more likely a 5 month cycle.

Hi Sam, by the time she's had about 4 seasons you should roughly know her particular pattern. Until then there is no way of knowing when she is due one. It's one of the downsides of owning a bitch.
