We've recently moved to a smaller house, but when I wash the kitchen floor it seems to take ages to dry I've bought the Dettol floor wipes for use in the bathroom & loo, but I'm a bit worried about using them in the kitchen - the instructions say don't let children/pets walk on the floor until it's dry - but would it be completely safe even then? Has anyone any experience of using these products? Thanks.

I recently received an email, originating in America warning of a problem with a certain brand of floor wipes which are poisonous to dogs.  As this could be a possibility for all brands of floor wipes, British or American, I took heed but also took this with a pinch of salt as I don't know the originator of the email nor the scientific reasons behind the warning.

However as the wipes do contain chemicals which do leave a wet residue, I am always cautious when using them - ensuring that my dog doesn't lick the floor when it happens - fortunately she hates the smell which makes her sneeze and always takes cover in the one carpeted room when I start floor cleaning so I would have thought it best to be alert when using them, making sure your dog(s)/kid(s) don't lick the floor afterwards, but not to be too over-protective in that if you want to use them, then do so.

However, as this is a matter I too am also interested in, i would be grateful if anyone has any particular knowledge or warnings about these kinds of products because my natural paranoia would relish in a dramatic reason not to use them and to announce to all my friends why they shouldn't either!

I use the pledge floor wipes (as I also only have one carpeted room ) I also use the dettol spray disinfectant on the floor and his bed after he has been eating his raw bones.  I havent experienced any problems but I also would be interested in others opinions :)

I don't really do housework and certainly do not bother with floor wipes, apart from my dogs  of course :D

I try my best not to do housework, thats why i use the floor wipes - a quick whip round with one of those and it looks like ive been polishing my floors for hours ;)

All these anti-bacterial wipes etc are a really bad idea :( Constant use of these things and too much over-prescription of anti-biotics etc is contributing to resistant bacteria like MRSA. A good wash is all that is necessary for floors.

The wipes I use arent anti bacterical - just fresh smelling :)  I have to use some form of anti bacterial stuff on his bed in between washes and on the floor after his bones because im sure it cant be hygenic - and trust me im not a hygiene freak - far from it

I've never felt it necessary to clean up after mine have bones :)

I thought there was loads of nasty bacteria on raw meat ?   And me being vegertarian I cant stand the smell of butchers shop in my kitchen, and on puppies ears and feet

my meat/bones are never on the floor long enough to be a problem :D

hmm .. now ive changed Fagan over to raw he must be feeling much more fuller and content because instead of bolting his food he likes to take his time and with his bones he generally drags them all round the kitchen and then finally eats them on his bed :rolleyes:

yep, I have to wash floor every day :rolleyes:  Barney pushes his chicken wings all round the kitchen floor licking them before he final decided to eat them.

It could be that he is getting too much food now, if he isn't eating quickly. I find with mine that chicken wings etc get eaten immediately, as with all their food, but recreational bones get taken to their beds or into the garden and are chewed at a leisurely pace :)

Now he has put on a decent amount of weight (he was an anorexic looking chap two weeks ago ) I have started to cut back on his food a little bit not much though because he is a growing pup after all, maybe that is the way he eats though, not all dogs bolt their food and maybe the only reason he used to bolt his food was because a few biscuits in his bowl wasnt satisfying his belly :)

big bones he has outside (ok so occasionally he sneaks them in :rolleyes: ) chicken parts he has in the kitchen and on his bed :)
