Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / dog on hunger strike!!!!!!
- By Tigge-with-spot [gb] Date 21.07.04 18:11 UTC
My dog has not eaten properly for over a week due to him having been mated and my girls being in season.  I have tried EVERYTHING to try and get him to eat and he will not eat more than a scrap.  Anyone have any suggestions before I go mad.

This often happens unfortunately when there are entire dogs housed near bitches in season, especially once the dog knows what it's all about! You may well just have to wait until they come out of season, and be prepared to go through this every time they come in. Alternatively you could send him to kennels, or to stay with friends, until the bitches are safe again.

He was going to kennels originally but it is the summer holidays so we cant get him booked in.  I just wish he would eat something he is a shadow of his former self.

This is one of the problems with dogs being used at stud, although I have one who will do this if it has come across an in season bitch at a show, he won't eat for a week or more. It is likely to happen everytime he is aware there is a bitch in season, dare not eat incase someone else gets there before him.
