I'm hoping that someone can give me some good advice. Our bullmastiff bitch of 4 months has suddenly stopped eating. She has always been a bit of a fussy eater, and not at all greedy, but now turns her nose up at everything i put down for her! I've tried all the usual, enticing her with sardines etc, even handfeeding her, which worked for a bit. The only time she's eaten really well is when she's at my friend's house (who has 3 other dogs). I've tried to contact the breeder on several occasions, but they have not responded, so didn't know where else to turn. She's looking really skinny, and has now been sick today to top it all off!!
Any help very much appreciated.

IS she teething?  THis can make gums uncomfortable.

As you have noticed introducing a bit of competition into the feeding arena tends to focus attention and increase appetite :D

She may have been sick because her tummy is empty however it is wise, if you are worried, to have her checked out at the vets.

Beware of creating a fussy eater................ with all this hand feeding etc

When was she last wormed?  Maybe a reaction to her innoculations?

If you're worried, pop her along to your vet!!

i also have a 4 month old bullmastiff bitch who went off her food over a month ago.  She lost a lot of weight and compared to the rest of the litter was looking pretty scrawny.  I started adding things to her meals such as sardines, mince meat etc and topped her up with chicken wings.  As a result she started to gain weight and looked really well.  However this did not last long.  Now she will only really eat her chicken wings or raw meat and wont touch her dried food.  She has now become so fussy i'm at my wits end.  Like yourself when she didn't eat at all i would try hand feeding.  Now its at the point where i feel as though each meal is a challenge.  She will hardly touch anything.  She is the only dog i know that wont eat tripe, gravy, tuna etc.

A couple of posters on here recommended B-Sorb.  I have been using it now for about 2 weeks now and haven't noticed any difference.  One thing she always eats is her chicken wings without fail, and she does like raw meats and offal so i've just ordered a book to study the Barf diet as it seems to be the best way forward.

You may want to consider this yourself.  The short version of this message is that your not alone.  Tohme is right about creating a fussy eater.... thinks its too late for me now.

All the best

Alisha
