What age would you say your puppies are fully weaned by?

My last bitch stoppd feeding both her litters at about 5 weeks, then started topping them up again when they were about 6 weeks - when they'd grown that little bit more and didn't hurt her when she stood up to feed them! They were still having comfort sucks at 7 weeks, but that's only because it kept bitch and pups happy.

It depends on the bitch - probably between 7 and 10 weeks

I start at around 3 or 4 weeks and they are normally completely weaned by 7 weeks, the last week before they leave mum they don't feed from her at all.

Is this something the bitch decides or the pups, or us?

My bitch reduced feeds severely at 4 weeks but they still run to her given the chance.  She removes herself most of the time but every so often I see she is standing up feeding them all happily.

I'm planning their transition to new homes and they are eating well on their own.  How does the bitch eventually stop?

Our male dog gets quite miffed when they look to him for milk!

I find that the bitch feeds the pups less and less as they get more active and less interested in her, and more interested in exploring the garden and house, etc. By the time the pups leave, from about 7 1/2 weeks they have just about stopped, and because they don't all leave at once the steady reduction in demand means an equally steady reduction in supply. Even when I've kept a pup that one has stopped comfort sucks before 9 weeks.
