Hello,
What homeopathic books would you recommend if I wanted to buy just one?
I have a small booklet by George MacLeod entitled Homeopathy for Pets but sometimes it conflicts with the writings of others in books owned by people I know! So who's right?
Christine
Hmm, not sure I can recommend just one! :D
I have Homoeopathic Medicine for Dogs (H.G.Wolf) and Dogs:Homoepathic Remedies (George Macleod) (plus the Materia Medica) and both are very good just a different style and approach. I also have one for cows and a host of others for humans and find them all helpful (often the same remedy will do no matter what the species) Hopmeopathy is so unlike any other sort of treatment that you need to study it to understand it and I think the more you read the better.
Have you a good library nearby? ;) :)
Kath.
Hi Christine (LM)
I forgot to say earlier (was rushing to go out) the reason why they seem to contradict each other is probably because there are thousands of remedies, each one with a specific remedy picture.....the Materia Medica lists over 40 remedies for kidney trouble alone. Obviously there isn't room in a book to include all the remedies and their actions so the authors will tend to include the main remedies for any given condition and maybe one or two others possibly the ones they are most familiar with and had good results with personally. One authors choice may be different to anothers but they are both correct for the ailment (though one remedy may suit the patient better than the other). :)
Kath.
P.S. if you click on the books on Christine's link it takes you to Amazon.com and you can look inside some of the books to get an idea of what's in them. I think it's mainly down to personal choice.

Maybe not in that class but I like "Natural Health for Cats and Dogs" by Richard and Susan Pitcairn.
Bet you never thought I'd have a book like that Lily!
Best wishes, John

John,
Nothing would surprise me with you!!!!!!! ;)
Kath,
Maybe it's easier for me to pick your brains for remedies! But I will mull over Christine's links. Thanks to you all.

Even my short trousers? I wore yours last Crufts. I told you they were a little large but since then I've grown into them. I'll have to go on a diet!
Best wishes, John
I can put some links for h/pathy for learners if you like L/M?

Christine,
Yes please.
Several years ago I had great success using Urtica on Asti. She went from rampantly scratching herself to nothing within 3 days.
John,
I should be at Crufts next year so don't go on a diet just yet so I can see you in your breeks!

Arr, well, C, I expect I'll be there but as to the breeks, that will depend on whether I have a dog to handle again. I'm still threatening the kilt for the big ring!
All the best, John
is that a homephathic remedy for itching as i have a bitch scratching like mad done all flea treatment so now going down alergy path
Urtica Urens (nettle) is just one of many remedies for itching. It's especially good for nettle rash type rashes (Urticaria). Sulphur is another good one, specially for dry, burning skin made worse from bathing and scratching.
You really need to read up and find which one suits your dog for best results :)
Kath.

Always glad to help. :) Really though it's far better to learn as much as as you can yourself as you know all their little quirks, temperaments, likes, dislikes, what makes them feel better or worse etc. which is important in treating homeopathically.
John, in complimentary medicine the remedies and treatments are only (or should be!) one aspect of the whole health care of a patient. I think some folk who try homeopathy and find it fails them would do well to remember that! ;)
Pitcairns book is on my ever growing "books to buy" list. :) I ordered The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care (C.J. Puotinen) last week too. Knowledge is power! :D
Kath.
Hi Kath, Puotinens book is top on my list to get, let me know what you think of it after reding it please :)
Christine, Spain.
Will do, Christine :) Typically, it was delayed but it should be arriving in the next week or so.
Kath.
Hi again Christine,
the book (which I ordered from Amazon on 27th June) has been delayed again...just had an email saying another 4-6 weeks now :( I think it ships from America. Grrr, it better be worth the wait!
Kath.
Oooo thats so frustrating Kath, know how you feel tho! We ordered a small milking machine ages ago but before the factory could get our order out they closed down for hols, all 4 wks of them!!! They are just about to reopen again so hope to have it in next few wks......
Christine, Spain.
In the meantime, get those fingers a-working, lol. Is it for the goats? We used to have goats before I married and boy, it used to make my hands ache. Luckily our cows are beef so don't have that problem now ;) We had to bring one in last night with suspected mastitis but luckily just turned out to be a sore teat. I squirted her with Hepar Sulph and Phytolacca to be on the safe side and Michael slapped some udder cream on and she's loads better today :)
Hope your machine arrives soon, how is it powered?
Kath.
Hi Christine,
The book arrived yesterday and I've had a good rummage through it. I'm very impressed. Loads of info from the basic to in depth stuff, recipes, formulas, dosage schedules, conversations/questions with well known experts...Pitcairn, Schoen etc.
I think seems very well written, researched and cross referenced and good value for money too, over 500 pages for £10.75 :)
Email me if you want any more info. :)
