Hi

Picked up my new puppy on Sunday aged 6 weeks, yesterday afternoon he started with the runs and still has them now, its like water passing through him the poor dog. Its not seeming to bother the pup although it is bothering me, is there anything to dry him up a little?

This sounds a bit more than the runs to me; if I were you I would have the vet have a check over him.

Diarrhoea is something that has different degrees of severity and sometimes home treatment is insufficient unless you have a fairly experienced "eye" and can differentiate between a case of the squits and an infection; it is vital that the dog is drinking but even so will probably need electrolytes to rebalance his system.

I telephoned the vet this morning who have said give him 24 hrs if he isn't clearing up by then pop him down, i am in the process of changing over his food so the vet has said it is possible this could be causing it. I am making sure he is drinking plenty of water etc, just thought maybe someone had some thing they use to help with this?

live yoghurt to replace stripped intestinal flora with some slippery elm food/tree bark powder to soothe the gut.

Might be the change of water and/or the change of food as well.

Thank you Tohme. I will give that a try, if he is no better then we'll get him over to the vet for a check up. I worry cause one of my girls had the runs as i baby for a week and we struggle to get weight on her now many ppl have told me this could be the cause. He's such a character lol full of life and loves my 18 month old girl, although the 2.5yr old girl isn't so keen.

Thanks for the advise and i'll keep you posted on how he gets on.
