What is safe to give our 2yr old HV to clear up a rash? She is on antibiotics from the vet but I would rather give her something more natural as this is a regular occurence during the summer. The rash is usually confined to the botton of her ribcage, armpits and belly and maybe an allergic reaction to certain plants and/or chemicals, we will never know what exactly causes it. Can you give anti-histamines that are made for children to dog? I know a few people who do this but I wasn't sure how safe it was. If not is there a cream I can use? I sometimes put E45 cream on when the rash has cleared as there is often alot of scratches and scabs from the pusstules(SP).
Any suggestions welcome
Emily
Hi, I have two itchy dogs, and give adult antihistamines to them, the non drowsy antihistamines should not be used on dogs. You can buy them in the chemist or get them from your vet, either way the price usually works out the same, its important to use the correct dosage, in my experience, my vet has alway's given too little, wasn't till I bought a book, called the little pill book for animals, written by vets, and looked at the amounts for various antihistamines, depends on the weight of your dog how much you give, found out that they could actually have double the amounts that were being prescribed, Piriton is usually the first one to be suggested, which you can buy in the chemist. Are you insurred ? if so do a search and read my past messages, I think you find them interesting;
hope this helps eleanor
