Have now decided to start some serious saving so I can go and visit my friend in San Francisco in November.  I'm excited already :D  We are planning on doing a road trip from San Fran all the way to Mexico.  What places are in your opinion unmissable?!  Will be there for 2 weeks, so we can fit in a few stops on the way :)

San Diego is a must!! the wildlife park and the zoo,but you need a full day in each.Plus Seaworld is worth a visit! guess I just love animals :)

Hearst Castle at San Simeon is definitely well worth a visit .....

Visit the Madonna Inn at St Luis Obispo, you won't be able to stay as they are booked sometimes years in advance but you can see postcards of the rooms, it is fantastic they are all different; the public loos are something else and the restaurant it kitsch with a capital K!  Hearst Castle needs a whole day for the lot, but you can just see the main house and the pools.  Santa Barbara, La Jolla, Carmel, Monterey, all can be done down the main interstate, San Diego is very nice.

Not sure where you are going in Mexico but Tijuana is not terribly representative.................
