Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / my schipperke killed a pigeon

I would like to know if it is normal for Schipperke's to kill birds?  I know they are bred to chase rats off ships, but I was unaware that they killed them or birds.  Please let me know if that is normal.

As a dog is a hunting carnivore I would consider it very normal for it to chase and kill things if it could.  Hope it enjoyed it's dinner:D

May be best to remove the feathers first, if the dog will let you have it back.

Yes it's normal, schips have for the most part a strong hunting instinct and will tackle most 'prey' if the opportunity arose.

I breed and show them and all of mine go to a local farm hunting rabbits and eating them bones fur and all, it won't do the dog any harm just make sure you worm it regularly, must confess none of mine have actually managed to catch a bird but they do give it a good go if I let them.
