HI
My GSD bitch is quite a fussy eater, I used to give her a tin of sardines once or twice a week as a treat.
My husband has just told me he puts a tin of sardines in tomato sauce in with her meat and mixer once a day to get her to eat her food, I thought this wasn't good for them! Does anyone know if this is ok?
Thanks

Sardines/pilchards/mackeral in tomato sauce is excellent
a) the tomato sauce helps prevent brown lawns
b) the fish contains valuable Omega 3s and EFA for dog health.
ps if her food is that bad, why not change it :D :D

Oh dear, you lot are gonna think me quite mad! I've been buying the sardines, pilchards etc in tomato sauce cos I knew the brine/oil was a no no, BUT I've been washing the sauce off cos I thought it would be too spicy :D :D (I'm lol at myself now) and yes I did lose some of it down the sink lol!
ah well :rolleyes

My dogs always get pilchards in tomato sauce for Sunday lunch. Never use fish in brine, it's too salty but in tomato sauce it is wonderful at providing oil for the joints and coat.

Sardines in oil is actually ok - the oil puts a nice shine on the coat but as you say brine is a no no
