Hi I read with interest the post on pedigree pouches - can anyone tell me why they do not seem to be well liked? I feed my dog on them and am now worried that maybe I shouldnt!!

Guest if you are happy with the food and your dog is doing well there is nothing wrong with it at all. Lots of show dogs have it, if only for the reason that you win it quite often. And believe me, if you win it, you use it, well most people do.

There are better foods about and there are worse and there are people who would rather make their own food up for their dogs, but lets be fair about it, most dogs do fine on most ready made dog food and if you and the dog are happy with it, then it is the food for you.

Any form of processed food, whether for the pet or owner market, contain ingredients that may be harmful to health, either in isolation or have a synergistic bad effect when combined with others.

Moist foods like this product contain many preservatives, humectants, emulsifiers and in this case also contain sugars and salts (caramel colouring) etc which at best are unecessary for canine well being and at worst may contribute to ill health or behaviour problems.

We know that additives have been identified as triggers to behaviour problems in children; it is believed that this may also be the case with dogs.

I absolutely agree that it's everyone's choice to feed what they want to their dogs and that what works for some doesn't work for others, but in my opinion, it's the ingredients that put me off Pedigree, or to be more exact, lack of: I wouldn't fancy eating "animal/meat derivatives" (whatever they include!), so I don't expect my dogs to either!  Plus as tohme added, all the other unneccessary things they add to it are things I don't want in my dogs diet.  Having said that, before I knew differently, all our previous family dogs were fed such foods and lived a long and happy life, but being better informed as I am now, I have chosen a different standard of feeding for my own boys and I believe them to be healthier for it!  But, as I said, everyone has their own choice, I'm not shooting down anyone feeding pedigree or anything else, it's just my opinion I'm sharing! :)
