I am looking for a puppy bitch to live as a family member with my Akita dog and 3 cats. I am home all day they are fed fresh meat and I have 2 acres of land in the hills of North Wales
Why dont you get one or the other? Are these not lovely dogs in their own right? (Just did a search to see what an hungarian kuvasz is and they look nice enough on their own, and leonbergers are a lovely breed too) Do people really look around to see what 'crosses' they can come up with? Or am I missing something?
Having done a little work for one of the main people in HK breed I do not imagine for one moment that anywill get x bred...they are very very carefully managed in this country. if poster is trying to decide between the two breeds though....they are very very different & I suggest they speak to well known responsible breeders of each to get more information.
Think it highly unlikely you will get a Kuvasz in the UK at the moment - have any been bred in the last few years? The people I knew who had them don't breed anymore - and I haven't seen a new one in the show ring for ages!
Leonberger is more common but still likely to be waiting lists.
But they are very different breeds. Kuvasz is a flockguard - very different in temperament to a Leonberger. More similar to the Kuvasz is the Pyrenean (most common but bigger and heavier), Maremma (similar size, white, different coat texture), Estrela (looks similar to Leo but flock guardian like Kuvasz) etc.
to get a leo you need to go on a waiting list as they are all planned litters.you won't come across x breed leo's. a leo owner or should i say owned by a leo.
