Hi
Bosun my SBT has a rectangular bald patch on the top of his head, its just in the crease. He has had it for some months now...
Some-one suggested that it could be hormones or where his skull is widening - he is 17 months old. He is not catching it on anything - and I have checked its nothing in his cage.
Any ideas. I am taking him to the vets next Monday for a check up, but thought I'd mention it here.

It does appear to be quite common in Staffys Debbie, so I wouldnt worry too much- also on the tail as well.

Thanks Lesley
It does not seem to be healing though, he has had it for months?

Some never seem to lose the patch but he wont be penalised for it at a show

Toesy had one on his tail for months. I thought it would never go, it had been there that long.
The skin looked quite white and dry, but I never put anything on it. It eventually disappeared without me really realising it.

Hi Debbie,
I have a 12 month old staffy called Murphy who at the age of about 7 month developed a bold spot on his head about the size of the 10 pence piece perhaps a bit smaller however has he red this is not to noticeable but I would imagine on black dog this would be however took him to vet to be checked she put it down to hormones did a skin scrape for demodex all clear, I have treated with vasoline or sudocream just to keep it moist as it looked dry no change, but when I had the lady out to bath both my dogs about 4 weeks ago she recommended Tea Tree Mist about £5.00 from Pet Smart which has really help and the fur is now growing back I just give a few squirts to the area twice a day he also has a bald spot on his tail and this is growing back, was told its because he changing from puppy to adult I call it Bald Dog Baldness and is very common.
So give it a try you may not see a difference straight away but I have been using it for about 4/5 weeks and I can see a difference already its not as along as the rest the its definately growing back.
Good Luck.

cornucressine is good for bald patches, or spots, also the hair grows back the right colour not white on black dogs
tea tree is very good
i wud also try using sesame oil in his food-he will probably like the taste and from past experience with this happening in my dogs it has improved the bald patch within a week.try it.
also make sure its not a fungal or bacterial infection-get sum shampoo from vets to bath 2 a week
also get a skin scrape to check for sarcoptic/demodex mange or else it will always be present become larger and even permanent.
