Depends on whether it is a dog or bitch as well. If it is a bitch and in season at 12 months then wait until she is older about half way between her seasons.

Also depends on which country the guest is asking about, unfortunately they did not say.

As Jackie says, it varies with the country. In the US for example you cannot have a dog scored until it is 2 years old. Personally here in the UK I prefer 18 months although the difference in scores is only going to be marginal at anything between a year and 5 years.
