My dog has a strained ligament sort of under her armpit of her front shoulder. She has had this for 3 weeks. A trip to the vets was required and Rimadyl was prescribed plus absolute rest for 7 days. We've got through 4 days but I won't be able to tell if she is better until she runs and plays rough with other dogs! Meanwhile I'm nervous of her even running around in the garden! Can anyone say how long it takes for ligament trouble to mend and whether Rimadyl is a good option.

I have had strained cruciate ligaments with as couple of my dogs when they were young and total rest is required as well as lead walking, although I have not come cross strained ligaments of the armpit. The last dog that suffered it ran around a freshly ploughed field and with the ground being heavy caused him to strain his cruciate. I rested him up and gave him elastin, which they use for horses to strengthen their ligaments and, which I got from a company in Hereford and have not had any problems since. Rest and lead walking is the best remedy.
