I heard on the news this morning that the RSPCA is trying to ban fireworks that are very noisey and to only have them at organized events. They are trying to ban them due to dogs and cats being so frightened that they harm themselves whilst trying to get away from the noise.I hope the ban comes in as my dog really does not like them and shakes all the time they are going off.
What experience have you had with your dog/dogs with fireworks?

Never had a problem with them.

mine are not botheres about them , I think it would be a shame to ban them totally but they should make a law that they can only be let off on 5th Nov and not weeks before and afterwards as they seem to go on forever round here

When neighbours let off some fireworks late at night (11.30pm!) a few weeks ago, one of mine wet himself with fear and another tried to dig her way through solid walls to get to us. It was an hour before they had stopped quivering enough for us all to go to bed.

So I say yes, ban the damn things apart from organised displays on November 5th only. I'd rather have one predictable night of hell than many random ones.

Have no problem with fireworks but why do they have to make such a loud noise.

my older girly tara is a nightmare with fireworks thunder etc etc the other two arent bothered.

its hell over fireworks night "weeks", & over the new year.

i sort of manage it with borax, valerian & rescue remedy, then she sort of copes, but is still not happy. i just make sure she can get into a corner & hide her head if she wants to. i dont try to comfort her,cos that makes it worse. the main prob is that she wont go outside at night so sometimes may have a "accident",which worries her even more.

ive tried "noise" cds, which didnt really help,& too be honest each year she gets a little bit more sensitve.

id like them to be a level on the noise,& limited to public displays ,not beyond 9pm on the one day only!

then i could just knock her out for the night & i wouldnt have a dog tramatised for weeks, getting so sensitive that she jumps if a door slams.

A friend of mine has a labrador that will happily stand next to someone firing a shotgun but is terrified of fireworks and thunder. I've heard this a few times, I think there must be some part of the sound that humans cant hear?

I think that fireworks should be left for fireworks night or weekend.  Round here they are let off because of the football, new year, xmas, olympics will bring the next lot of them and even just people having parties in their back gardens now seem to have a need for letting them off - its too much!!

With thunder it is often the change in air pressure that is the key trigger to distress;

Fireworks can also be on a different wavelength than guns and so it is this rather than the "decibels" that hurt the dogs.

I feel they should be limited to organised displays, then people can choose to live near to these venues or not. I loathe them because i know of people who have actually had their dogs put to sleep due to the stress the dog's suffer :(

My dog was brought up with fireworks tapes from a tiny puppy, but she is still really upset by sudden, unexpected loud bangs. Come to that, so am i.
I get really angry that my peaceful enjoyment of my home is disturbed by these idiots and i am afraid i feel like doing something to the kids that let them off

I am sure wildlife is disturbed too; we know horses are and have bolted in panic.
