Topic Other Boards / Foo / Cottages in Cornwall

As me and my friends are all well and truly skint. The only holiday that we think we can afford this year, is by going down to Cornwall and renting a cottage for a week, any body got any recommendations of where to stay.  We would want somewhere with lots to do, some of us surf so that's got to be a consideration, but we're open to other suggestions than Newquay.
Any links to good websites or ideas of how much it would be likely to cost.
Cheers! :)

Rachel
you have probably left it a little late if you are wanting it for this summer but if you do a google and put in cottages and cornwall you should get lots coming up :)

perranporth is a nice place and has good surf and cos it's outside of Newquay it may be a bit cheaper

If money is tight why not do it in tents? you can be so mobile then and move from place to place, Cornwall is too fabulous to be stuck in one spot :)
- By Rachel20 [gb] Date 01.07.04 13:36 UTC
Believe me there is no way you would get me and my friends in a tent!  Plus I suffer from really bad hayfever, and I can't be sleeping outdoors or I'll look like I've done 10 rounds with Ricky Hatton! :)
I'm doing a search this afternoon and think we can get something really cheap if there are any still available.

I don't think you'll find any 'cheap' holiday cottages in Cornwall this time of year, we found it as expensive to stay in this country as it was to go abroad
- By Rachel20 [gb] Date 01.07.04 14:59 UTC
I've been doing some searches and I've found some lovely places that would only cost us about £125 each.  I don't know if this is expensive or not, but I thought that was fine.  Especially, when I think I would be paying about £250 to go anywhere decent abroad now
- By SharonM Date 02.07.04 07:13 UTC
That's not too bad, but how much will it cost you to keep out of the rain in this country..........lol. probably more than it would to go abroad, this is why we don't holiday in this country any more.  Which is a shame, as kids we always went to Looe/Polperro/Hayle fab place if only you can guarantee the weather.

That's a very good point!  And I seriously need some sun :D

Rachel - I  don't suppose you could do me a favour could you and let me have the details of the places you've found.  Me and the OH are looking but haven't been able to find anywhere for that kind of price!!

Thank you!!

No probs, I looked on westcountrycottages.co.uk (I think) I've been on loads so can't remember!  And I found some places in St Ives and St Austell that looked nice.  Thing is I would be going in a large group, which is why it would work out loads cheaper.  I didn't look at the places for just couples, so they might be loads more expensive.  But it's worth a look :D  Been looking on teletextholidays as well, and you can get some real bargains abroad, just don't fancy going unallocated.  I can imagine it would be just my luck ot end up in a right dump!

Thanks Rachel - I'll have a look on that website!!  What I really need is a nice rich friend with a gorgeous rambling cottage by the sea which they would be only too happy to rent to me for 2weeks absolutely free!!  Oh well - I'll just carry on dreaming for now!!

We went abroad last year as our last sunny holiday for a while - now we've got Glazby we've decided to holiday with him!!  He's part of the family (no kids = he's my surrogate child!!) so we think it only fair to take him with us!!

Hayley..xx

Meant to say look on www.famcott.co.uk that was good too.  The ones with little paws by them mean Glazby can go too :D

well I hate to be the party pooper but you wont get much thats nice for a cheap price in cornwall....you will prob. end up 10 miles from the sea or stuckin a really grotty small town :( Plus its raining heavily there (here) at the moment & the lanes are jammed up with grocks & caravans :( & if you go to looe its full of tacky shops and amusements (YUKKY!!)

When were you wanting to go, we have booked a mobile home in padstow for the first week in September for £100, it a nice site not to big, we usually take the caravan but cannot face the trip with the caravan this year, because savannah 6 yr old gets bored, so opted for this as a break, spending 2 days at weston super mare on the way down to help her.

Can give you details if you want, we had a cottage through Blakes holiday cottages 3 years ago, 4 miles from newquay. last week in August it was lovely cottage graden the lot cost £245 for the week then, and the weather was still great

Yes please - trying to find somewhere fairly cheap for 2 of us, all the prices advertised seem to be for 4+ people sharing!!
