Jackalyn, I realise you are stressed ...but sometimes you need to wait a bit longer than 3 hours for a reply ;) :D

It could be that she is having a phantom pregnancy but I also seem to remember that hormones on their own can make a bitch have milk. Best bet is to wait and see what the Vet says :)

The vet will probably want to delay spaying until the false pregnancy is ended and your bitch is back to normal. Apparently spaying during lactation results in the bitch continuing to produce milk for weeks.

Spaying is the best thing to do as, having had one phantom, she is likely to have them after each season. Also false pregnancies can be very stressful for the bitch.

Someone I knew had two PoodleX's One of them had a false pregnancy and she ws advised to spey.
She had both bitches speyed but the one that had the false pregnancy had milk until she died five years later at 13 years old.

hi

we've now been to the vet she could'nt give us any galastop to dry the milk up as bo was being sick as well and she also had a high temp and one side affect of galastop is vomiting she advised to give her plenty of exercise and cut out as much carbohydrates as poss well she still has milk in fact her teats resemble cows hudders so i suspect i will have to take her back to the vet funny thing is she is'nt doing the usual false pregnancy things shes pretty much acting as normal apart from being a bit extra hypo and a little bit nervy poor thing i wondered if her teats would feel uncomfortable like it does after you have a baby and the milk comes in but you don't breast feed mine felt like concrete bricks and were very painful
