OK,

I have looked at the brands of clippers that all look very nice, but are they all safe?? My GSD I groom ervery day (twice atm cos of ALL the moulting) but he has these real tight curls at the base of his ears which get knotty no matter how much I groom him, they get ANYTHING and EVERYTHING clinging to them and if I dont spot a small knot and brush it there and then, well, it can be a nightmare and the dog hates it. So I just want to know if these clippers 'Wahl, Oster, Laube' are all safe to use in that area in an emergency grooming session.

Sure there'll be better groomers than me along to give advice, but I would strongly suspect that clipping this area would make matters worse, not better .......

Having Collies, this area is a nightmare, best thing to do is just keep combing - and if you get a knot cut THROUGH it in the direction of hair growth (not across hairs to cut the whole knot off) - you should then find it will comb through fairly easily.  Does that make sense?

To answer your question.  Yes it is safe to use them in that area, the only thing is that you will have to use the clippers without any attachments.  Your dog may also not like having a vibrating noisy machine next to his ears.

But personally I would do what Brihow Collies said to do.  It's better in the long run as if you use the clippers in one area it will cause the hair to be even more curly. :)
