I realise that all dogs are different, so realise that no one will be able to give me an exact answer but just wondered what experiences you good people have had.

We have an eleven week old puppy which came to live with us two weeks ago so very early days yet but approximately how long does it take for a pup to settle down and not cry or yap when we are out of sight or when we go to bed? Most nights when we put her to bed, she will cry for a while but eventually settle down. She sleeps in a small crate which is plenty big enough for her to stretch out in but not too big. During the day, she eats and sleeps in it quite happily with the door open, we only shut it at night or if we have to leave her on her own for a short time during the day while we go to the supermarket.

During the daytime, if she is not asleep, she tends to cry a lot if we arent holding her. We play with her and spend lots of time with her but when we have no choice but not to pick her up or play with her, she cries! Any suggestions? I know she is still very young and expect her to cry and want attention as any baby would but we dont want to do anything that might make the matter orse or creat problems later on. We want her to be a happy member of the family.

Hi
You need to teach your puppy that  it can't have attention from you 24hrs a day.She should have play time with you abd cuddle time with you but should also have time on her own.If she doesn't you are probably going to end up with a destructive dog when you go out as she will suffer from anxiety seperation.
Do not allow her to follow you around the house...use baby gates if neccessary.
Do not go to her if she cries at night.
Do not allow her to demand you pick her up..ignore the cries and then pick her up when she is quiet and it is a time you want to cuddle her .
She already has you very well trained...she is obviously a bright girl but you need to break these habits. It will be hard and it may seem harsh but you will all benefit in the long run.
Good luck
Archer
