hi all my name is sarah and im ** my mom and dad have said that i can have my own dog and have picked a papillon. but after talking to people at a show i was told that if i want a papillon bitch that i would have to wait for about 2 years cause there hard to get, now thats not possible so my mom and dad  have said to pick out other dogs to have instead so ive picked a long haired chihuahua or a pomeranian. Can anyone give me some info about the availabilityand the personallity of these breeds.

                                            thanks,  sarah xxx

Hi Sarah, I'm sorry I don't know about the breeds you have chosen, but I think you might have just as much trouble getting hold of a bitch puppy in any of the breeds you mentioned. The reason is tiny litters of only 2 or 3 puppies of which there may only be 1 or maybe 2 bitch pups. Bitches are very precious to their breeders because they are the future breeding stock.

I do hope you are lucky in finding what you want, but it might be as well to pick a breed that has slightly larger litters to maximise your chances. What about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

Best Wishes, Dawn R.

I would say if you are told to wait 2 years then it shows the breeder may also have a waiting list, which shows a good breeder!  A breed of dog I really really want is an 18mth-2 year waiting list, due to in 2 years going off to uni (maybe) I don't feel it fair to get a puppy, insted I will wait!

It sounds like you want a small/toy dog so trying having alook at the Kennel club site and look at all the different toy breeds, see what you like, and thier are contacts for clubs that can then tell you more!

Good luck in your search, for a well bred dog it is highly likely you will have to wait awhile before getting one!

Hello Sarah

Have you contacted the Papillon club puppy register, this is run by a lady who does not breed but she keeps information on papillon breeders who have pups available.  Her contact details are on the club website   http://www.papillonclub.co.uk/
Hope this helps, I do know that bitches are harder to come by than dogs but sometimes you just have to look in the right place.

Your other choice of dogs are similar to papillon in that they produce small litters and again you might find you may have to wait for your pup.
Check out the breeders on champdogs or the breed clubs for further information on the breeds you have chosen.

Good luck in finding your pup.

Regards
Joan
