There is no rule to stud fees.
A stud owner can charge what he/she likes.
As a rule you should not pay more than a pup is worth.
But the worth of the pup also has some bareing on the quality of
the sire. You also need to think if you want the stud owner to take
pick of litter it may have been your choice.
Also if the bitch is not pregnant will the stud owner give you a free mating next time. Mainly you need to know how much a litter will cost
you from stud fee to homeing. sierra has compiled a site with a lot
of info from breeders on there.
And if someone will help me out because i have forgotten the name again
you should take a look.

Welcome to the forum Chloedog :-) Have you had a word with your bitches breeder? Hopefully, she will be able to advise you on the health checks that you need to carry out before you consider mating your bitch. She may also be able to recommend potential stud dogs which would compliment your bitch.

More important than costs are the quality of the male and what pairing the two up will do to improve upon the breed. Of equal importance is whether or not all the genetic disorder testing has been done (just as an example, heart testing for aortic stenosis and boxer cardiomyopathy; eye testing for CPRA, cataracts, and PRA; hip and shoulder dysplasia). I'd also take temperament into consideration.
Prices will, of course, be less for those dogs whose owners don't bother to test. But, if you're going to breed, you should obviously want to produce healthy puppies.

Thanks for your help i will look at that website. i am a veterinary nurse so i of course have had my bitch heartested and hipscored, so i am concerned that the stud should be of good health etc, the only other dilema i have is that a family member has a male boxer (not neutered!) who is very keen to mate, unfortuntley she will not pay out for hipscoring and i'm not alltogether happy with his looks ! but he has a fantastic temperament, how do i put her off without upsetting her about her beloved pet (!) i've tried the creating a behaviour problem one !

Try telling them you have people interested in puppies but only if the parents are hip scored. Of course if they turn round and get their dog scored you may have to tell them the bookings are on condition the pups aint ugly :p

tell her he wont excell where she fails-that you need more --[SOMETHING HES NOT GOT], or look at the pedigree and he'll either be not right as he's line bred ----or not right cos hes not line bred, hope fully this will spare feelings, its amazing how folk can see no wrong in there males and push them at you when you've a bitch to mate, you'd be better of seeing what type of boxer you liked and which kennel is producing it, talk to the breeder of your bitch and also the owner of the kennel with the type you admire, they should have an idea if theyre male will suit your bitch, if you're docking the pups have you got it sorted out too, =well in advance,

everyone has there own veiws on it ,personally id agree with your husband ,but its each to there own ,im sure theres a site that helps and keeps a list of people wanting undocked dogs----am i right bec?. so its up to you to decide what you'd rather do, contact the site for keeping tails on and it might help you make up your mind, could someone post it on here please-i honestly dont know it or i would

The choice is up to you whether you decide to dock or not. I do run the Society for the Promotion of Undocked Dogs and we do get calls from people wanting undocked pups. Best way is to test the water and advertise that you are hoping for a potential litter that will be undocked and see what demand you get. If the mating is a long time off then you can use the magazines such as Dogs Today.

its better practice to contact the stud dog owner quite a while before the planned event, ask for a copy pedigree of his male, a stud fee and what would happen if she missed and any other quieries you have, its probably best to ask for the details in writing, then if you're happy with the chosen male ,price etc let them know as soon as she comes into season so theyd have a rough idea when to expect you.
if you're interested in several and are trying to find the one that suits your bitch best, when you contact the owners make sure to tell them its an enquiery not a booking ,as word will get around that you've contacted a few ,so best to make it clear from the start :)
