- By ManxPat [im] Date 25.06.04 21:12 UTC
I'll be there with my labs. This is my first champ show so I am a bit nervous. I hope to be able to meet some of the people who post of this website.
- By mattie [gb] Date 25.06.04 21:41 UTC
hopefully ill be there fullwell labs

good luck
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 25.06.04 22:25 UTC
Well I'll be there with Ickle Man and Lydia.  Lydia is nearly 11 and this will be her third show ever :d  You wouldn't think that she's nearly 11 as she looks so fit, she's wonderful, I took her there last year and although she didn't win she got placed.

So if anyones near the import register gundog ring pop and say hello I'll be the one with the hairy black and  white Spanish Water Dog and the clipped white and black one.
- By ManxPat [im] Date 26.06.04 10:50 UTC
Will look out for you. I don't have an affix yet, as I said we are just starting out on the whole showing adventure and hope that Leeds will be a good learning experience for us. I am showing my young bitch Rockledge Foxy Lady, out of Carpenny Walpole and Rockledge Bramble. I am also bringing my other lab, a drakeshead lab, but we will not be showing him. Im quite nervous but I'm adopting the attitude of whatever happens it will be good experience.
- By Jackie H [fr] Date 26.06.04 11:09 UTC
Gosh, how exciting, make the most of it what ever happens, you can never go to your first show again.
- By ManxPat [im] Date 26.06.04 11:31 UTC
We intend to enjoy ourselves, meet up with like minded people and learn some new things so yes it is exciting.

Thanks for all your advice by the way, see you there
- By kayc [gb] Date 26.06.04 18:52 UTC
Hi Manxpat, I will be going to leeds, as a friend is showing, my two are still three weeks too young. I would love to see your pup, I have a pup from Walpoles sister.

Kay
- By ManxPat [im] Date 26.06.04 20:25 UTC
That would be great - love to catch up with other lab owners especially. Pity you won't be bringing you pup. Walpole has quite a few offspring here on the Isle of Man, as well as Tiger Tiger.

See you there.
- By woomeg [gb] Date 26.06.04 20:31 UTC
sorry but i thought you werent allowed to bring dogs that werent entered
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 26.06.04 20:33 UTC
Yes Woomeg, you can attend the show, but not take your unentered dog.
:)
- By woomeg [gb] Date 26.06.04 20:39 UTC
Can people who have entered one of their dogs bring any of their others dogs even if they arent entered, it was just that manxpat said will be bringing other lab, a drakeshead lab but not entering, dont mean to cause trouble but just wondered
- By ManxPat [im] Date 26.06.04 21:08 UTC
My other dog is entered, but not for competition so I still pay my £9.00 for a bench etc for him. I think he will also be in the catalogue but marked "Not for Competition".

Hope that clears things up.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 27.06.04 06:11 UTC
Woolmeg, when you enter your dog into a show you fill in a form and put down all it's details, DOB and the names of it's parents and it's breeder, then you put the number of the class you want the dog entered in. If you want to take a dog that you do not want to go into a class, (you do not want to compete), you still put all the dogs details down but instead of putting the class number you put (NFC - not for competition) It is up to the people running the show if they will allow dogs to be entered NFC, some do, some don't.

Some Championship shows have a tent outside the showground, usually run by a dog charity, and that is called the un-entered dog tent. You can leave any un-entered dog in this tent, some time there is a charge but most of the time the people running this tent ask for a donation but in either case it costs £5 + some goes toward the tent and benching, some to the charity.

Before anyone accuses me of talking down to Woolmeg I am aware that she knows nothing of showing and some of the terms would or could cause confusion.
- By woomeg [gb] Date 27.06.04 08:02 UTC
Thankyou that has cleared it up for me. And no i dont know about dog showing, i may get bug for it after july who knows, hopefully its not any more stressfull than my daughters showing their ponies. Can you buy a programme befor you go or just on day?
- By Jackie H [fr] Date 27.06.04 08:50 UTC
Show societies produce two documents in relation to a show. The first is the schedule that tells you the rules and regulations, details of how the show will be run and the classification of breeds, who is judging those breeds and what classes are available. And the form you use to enter your dogs and order if you wish a catalogue. That, the catalogue, is the second publication and contains a list of all dogs entered either to be shown or NFC, the details of the dogs and the names and if agreed the addresses and phone numbers of the owners of the dogs. Catalogues are not available until the day of the show, some are usually available for sale on the day.
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 27.06.04 15:45 UTC
Does anyone know if there will be a tent for un-entered dogs on the gundog day of Leeds champ show? We want to go and watch and would rather take the girls for the trip out than leave them with someone.
Thanks
- By Jackie H [fr] Date 27.06.04 16:12 UTC
Can't find any mention in the schedule but I am sure the usually do. You could ring or fax the secretary if you want to be sure, PM me if you want the numbers.
- By ManxPat [im] Date 27.06.04 21:52 UTC
As Jackie said there is no mention of a tent at leeds. In other schedules there is mention, so I would suggest you contact the secretary.
- By I_love_vizslas [gb] Date 28.06.04 16:01 UTC
Hi emily

did you find out if un-entered dogs can get in??? I have never been to a dog show and Harewood house is only about 2 mins from my house and I would love to take Tally!
- By Moonmaiden Date 28.06.04 16:23 UTC
You will NOT be able to take any unentered dogs into the show ground at any all brred Championship show. Quite simple. You would need an exit pass at Leeds to take a dog out & they usually check the number of dogs against the number on the passes. they certainly did at Blackpool & Birmingham this year
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 28.06.04 16:30 UTC
Just found out somewhere that last year the RSPCA had a dog creche(is this true?) so maybe the same will apply this year? Have been trying to get through to the secretary but it's constantly engaged. Will keep trying though.......
- By gwen [gb] Date 28.06.04 17:49 UTC
I think I remember an unentered dogs tent on the edge of the Car park last year, or the year before.  No idea if they are planning for one this year.
bye
Gwen
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 28.06.04 20:19 UTC
They usually have a tent just outside for unentered dogs.  I could give Liz a ring and find out if you want me to?
- By Claire B [gb] Date 01.07.04 12:38 UTC
If someone could find out about an unentered dogs tent that would be fab.  I've been to Leeds before and each time I've had to leave my bitch with someone at home because I don't show her and there has never been any facilities other than benching her as NFC and I won't do that.

Thanks. :-)
- By Thursday Next [gb] Date 01.07.04 19:35 UTC
I've discussed this with Liz Stannard in the past.  Leeds always have a tent for unentered dogs (normally in the first car park you reach, on the right as you go in) but they never advertise it in the schedule.
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 02.07.04 07:04 UTC
Thanks for that fleetgold, I've been trying to get through for days but it was always engaged. Is it advisable to get there early or is there plenty of room for alot of dogs? What do they do with the dogs? Never occured to me to ask.....:).....
- By Thursday Next [gb] Date 02.07.04 17:00 UTC
There isn't a lot of room but I have never found the nfc tents too full to take my dogs, but I do arrive fairly early at shows.

The dogs are on benches, the same as in the show, or else in their own cages on the bench.

- By Claire B [gb] Date 02.07.04 10:08 UTC
Why on earth don't they advertise it ??

Thanks for the info :-)
