Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Bones - which ones ?
- By ClaireyS Date 25.06.04 13:57 UTC
Im going to go to my local Butcher tomorrow to get some bones for the dogs but I really dont know what to ask for, I dont really want to go in there and say "alright mate can I have a bone please" what if he asks me what sort :-o

So what should I ask for ?  They are for a 13 week old setter and 6 month and 2 year old cockers, just to keep them out of my hair over the weekend for a while ;)

Do you know thats what I thought, but then I thought that would be too easy I must have to ask for some fancy name :D :D :D

Marrow bones are good but also rib bones lamb and beef go down a treat with my dogs, but they seem to enjoy the lamb more than the beef.

Well the bones did the trick - no hassles all saturday whilst they were busy gnawing them, but Sunday they decided to swap and thats when the growling and snapping started

All bones in the garden now as they are starting to stink -  also the cocker pup thought an arm chair was the best place to eat a bone

Should I throw the bones out or just let them fester in the garden so the dogs can nibble/have a ruck whenever they fancy it ?

Rugrott - do they eat ribs bones quicker ?

Depends on the weather!  If it is very hot you are asking for swarms of flies and, if they are meaty, possible rats!

I throw mine when the cartilage and marrow is stripped.

Mine are always separated with bones too!

yes I was worried about the rats, the rat man got shot of them a while ago but as im surrounded by fields  im sure there are more lurking

You could bury them in the garden, sometimes they won`t be dug up for ages or even not at all, good for the soil as well. My lot eat rib bones in no time, marrow bones they spend hours getting the marrow out 7 stripping them bare :D
