Can anybody advise please whether there is a home method for removing these nasty bugs from my Boxer. He loves running in the fields next to our house, but within 12 hours we tend to find a few have been taking up residence on him.

Don't really want to spend every week at the vets, if there is a safe home treatment

Thanks

Our vet sells 'tick hooks' for less than £4, so you can remove them safely and easily yourself.

best to put some vaseline or frontline on them first to kill them and make them lose their grip first :)

we use tweezers and twist off anti clockwise - was told this a few years ago - and never looked back! it works brilliantly, no messing about.

by twsting them they release thier grip so you wont 'break' the tick off ! they are horrible things, and the last thing you want is to leave thier horrible little heads in the skin!!

hope it helps, chel

Hi guest,my dog gets ticks here in Germany and I use a tick remover like a pair of tweesers but they lock on just behind the body and the head of the tick and twist the remover anti clock wise until you feel no resistance making sure you don't leave the head and legs in the dogs skin. My dog is vaccinated against Lymes disease (which ticks carry) can cause the dog to have trouble with their joints. If you dog get ticks quite abit ask your vet to see if they vaccinate in UK as they do over here. Also I have found tick collars work but are only to be used on dogs over 3 months old and above.
