Does anyone have experience with cherry eye in Cockers ??  I am looking after my friends two American x English Cocker Spaniels.  The pup is 6 months old and has a large red fleshy lump on his eye, the vet has said this is cherry eye and the pup will be referred to an eye specialist and will have to be operated on.  It looks awful but doesnt seem to bother him.  I have heard this is hereditory therefore should she let the breeder know (although they are cross breeds she is a responsible breeder) Has anyone experience the op ?  does it work ?  are there any risks ?

Claire :)

if you do a search on here for cherry eye you will get alot of info....One of my boston's had cherry eye we did the op (third eye gland tuck) at 8 months and her eye's look beautiful to this day...there is about 3 different ops you can get done.....Do the search and decide for yourself....I had to do the op since the gland was rubbing on her eye's and would of caused her to go blind :(

hi my friends bulldog had cherry eye and found an excellent vet who put drops into the eye to numb it then after 10 minutes just snipped it off,no operation or being put under, just straight off,job done, angie,ps hes in wolverhampton.

OMG  that sounds terrible, can't see how they can just freeze it and snip it off so many things to close up all that tissue :( After seeing the excellent job my vet did with T-Bone I would always try the third eye gland tuck before any removal.........
