Please could anyone help.Say if a stud dog was used for stud work in the morning then again in the afternoon would it be possible for the mating in the afternoon to be unsuccessful even though there was a tie for about half an hour?Any advice would be most appreciated.

Has the dog had a sperm count done recently? Was the bitch at the optimum time for mating? A tie is not always a guarantee that there will be puppies as there are many factors involved to each mating.

OH Guest!
Was this an accidental mating if so I would take the bitch to the vet in the morning.

If it was an intentional mating I would not use that stud dog again as the owners are useless.

Lets put it this way I wouldn't be happy paying a stud fee to the woner if the dog had been with another bitch already on the same day.

I would want the dogs reserves to be replenished.  this is the main reason for mating on alternate days for mating, as sperm should eaily remain viable for two days, and just be topped up by a fresh supply.
