i should be getting a puppy at the start of july, would i be ok if i took it on holiday at the end of august? it is far to drive to and we would b only staying for a week. would the puppy have settled in by then?

How old will pup be? Will it have finished it's injections? Is this a one off holiday or will it be a regular thing? These are the first questions that came to mind. There are bound to be others that I have forgotten. If the pup is not going to left alone whilst you are on holiday then I think you should be ok. It is really going to depend on where you are going, and the nature of the dog, I suppose.

hi, i im getting when it is 8 weeks, so by that time it would b about 16 weeks, is that old enough? we go away to the same place ever year so if it didnt go this year it would definatly be going next year! it certainly wouldnt be left alone because wed b takin it to all the beaches, it would have so much fun!it would probably b a jack russell, so would it be ok?
thanks

You will need to be very careful and to a large extent organise your holiday around the puppy. I took my first Labrador, Mandy away to Scotland for two weeks in a caravan when she was 14 weeks old. Exercise must obviously be limited and in August the temprature could be very hot in a car so you could well have problems. I remember when we were in Scotland the temprature was quite cool.

Best wishes, John

As John has said just be careful with the temperature and exercise. If the pup will be going every year then this is a good time to start as any ;) It probably won't remember the place next year, but will still enjoy it all the same :D

We took our 10wk old gsd pup with us to Weymouth. Quite a long journey from Liverpool. She was great as she was crate trained and so long as we have the crate she is happy to go anywhere. We are lucky to have a car big enough to put her crate in errected. We started the journey the night before we had originally planned so that the trip could be split in two. We were towing a caravan so we were able to stop on the services overnight. She just slept most of the time, although we had stops every two hours for her to toilet ,water and feed. She had a super time.
