Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / English bull terrier pup and a baby
- By Guest [gb] Date 13.06.04 12:26 UTC
We have a 7 month old english bull terrier who is great but does crave our attention.
I am due or first baby in November so she will be just over a year by then. We are concerned how the dog will accept the new baby and can anyone give us any suggestions?

Thanks

Get yourselves a book called Your Dog and Your Baby, by Silvia Hartman-Kent.  Good luck :)

The dog will be fine with the baby IF you treat it just the same and dont make it stay away from the new member of the family
you just need to sit in a room with the baby and may your hubby and the dog and just sit and talk dont make a big thing about it
if the dogs wants to sniff which it will let it but telling it to be gentle
buy a tape of babies crying and making sounds as this is what up sets dogs the sound of a new baby
take them for a walk with hubby holding the dog and then you holding the dog.
also stop all the attention now make the dog sit in another room for a while start over with it now before the baby comes.
