Has anyone had a short break and taken their dog with them? My partner and I want a short holiday, just for a few days, but we would like to take our Black Lab with us. Has anyone got any recommendations of any good locations, Hotels/B+B etc? Preferably East Anglia region.

Thank you all for your comments. I will try your recommendations. Since searching for doggy holidays, I have come across Country Holidays. They have a 473 page brochure full of Self-Catering Cottages to rent for short and long breaks all over the UK, and approx 50% of the cottages let pets stay too, for just £16 extra per week. I thought this was excellent. They also have a very good website: www.country-holidays.co.uk

We often take our dogs with us. I believe there is a site called www.petswelcome.co.uk or something like that. Put a search for accomodation + pets + UK into Google and that should take care of it. There are a LOT of hotels, B&B, self catering that take dogs. Short of that - Travel Lodge (not travel INN) allow dogs as well and we've had VERY good experience with them - just let them know there's a dog when you're booking and they'll often put you closer to the door for easier access.

We are hoping to maybe holiday with Banya later this year; out of interest, how do you manage with letting the dogs toilet?

Banya "goes" last thing at night at the moment, in the garden about 11pm. . Then next day on a walk.

Do dog-friendly hotels let dogs "go" in their gardens if you pick it up promptly, do you know?

Hiya Lindsay - Travel Lodge has never said anything one way or the other, but there is usually some grassy area near-by - we always pick up after ourselves. At the self-catering place there was a grassy area just up the road with dog bins that they recommended us to take the dogs. Best advice would be when thinking about booking to ask what the arrangements are. But so far we've had no trouble:)

I never thought to ask before - I just assumed a dog friendly hotel would have a dog friendly 'spot' somewhere nearby - Hmmm - will have to ask now.

This is a completely useless reply really. You see a while back I found a link to a dog friendly B&B in East Anglia. I checked out the website and it looked really lovely. Pro-dogs, walks from the back door. Trouble is I can't remember the name or place. It was originally on a linked site from the Bracco Italiano site. I don't know if Leigh might be able to help. WHSmith sell a 'dog friendly holiday book' and check out searches on the internet.

Did anyone see another letter in Dogs Today re 'dog friendly' hotels etc that aren't really 'dog friendly' in that they have specific breeds they exclude (staffies was the one mentioned in the letter) is this reasonable?
