We have just rescued a 11 yr old lurcher from the RSPCA who is a lovely affectionate boy, but we are keen to get him to meet our families dogs as soon as possible...could anyone on here offer some advice ??

We know it is best to get them to meet on neutral ground, out on a walk or something and we also know that he will tolerate other dogs to a degree however he is not happy when confronted or approached and tends to bark or pull slightly on lead (not overly aggressive). The families dogs we want him to meet are a lot smaller than him so we are going to muzzle him for safety but we really want it to work so if anyone can offer advice it would be much appreciated.

As an example if he is agressive on meeting should we be telling him off or just pull him away and ignore it.

Any advise will be greatfully received.

Many thanks

The majority of problems between dogs are caused by us humans.  Yes they should meet somewhere neutral and it is best done off lead or if that is not an option a long line that is kept loose.  Holding or pulling dogs back will alter body language and cause them to 'say' something that they don't want to.  If they do have a grump it is all part of the process and they don't need 'telling off' for it.  Best just to go for a casual stroll with them all and don't make too big a deal about it.
