My darling little cat brought a live shrew into my bedroom  this morning and whilst playing managed to lose it   Ive left my bedroom door open today in the hope that she finds it but the chances are it has hidden itself well away from prying cat claws :(  In the event that she doesnt find it ive brought a couple of mouse traps (the humane variety) it says that they are already baited, dont know what with but I suspect it is something that  a mouse will be attracted to, not a shrew.  Does anyone have any ideas what I could bait the trap with, being as shrews are insectivores I doubt they will be attracted to the same bait as mice.

The best way is to balance a bucket of water on the top of the door. Place a large fruit cake on the floor with a piece of string tied to it. Pass the end of the string over the door knob and tie a hammer to the end of the string.

When the Shrew smells the cake he will open the door to get to it and in so doing will upset the bucket of water which should drown him. In the event of him not drowning plan B/ comes into operation. After the fright with the water he will start to get hungry and will eat the cake. At the point where the cake becomes heavier than the hammer, the hammer will decend and hit him on the head so allowing you to finish the dastardly deed with said hammer.

Hoping this helps, J Hic! pardon, sorry

Lol @ John :D :D

You could try a nice big, tasty earth worm.  My pet shrew loved them ( I kept him for all of three hours and then set him free in a safe place as his habitat was being dug up for housing 0:) )

lol @ John :D :D :D

The cat has been laying guard in my bedroom all day, although she probably slept for most of the day so the little b*gger probably snuck past her   Ill stick an earth worm in the trap and see what happens.  Chances are its dead and the only way I will find it is when it starts to rot
