My Chocolate Labrador Bitch was mated 4 weeks ago and as it is the first time I wondered if there should be any tell tale signs by now. I realise I could get her scanned but apart from that could an experienced breeder let me know of any!! She has not put on any weight really and still looks the same underneath as usual, she has however got very 'clingy' , seems to take more care and is fussy about her food. Thankyou.

Her vulva may be slightly larger than normal.
nipples slightly larger. But usually the main sign is a temperament change.
My bitch is very lovey dovey when pregnant. Also if she is 4 weeks when
on her back feel her tum you may beable to feel little lumps like marbles
but i must stress do not poke and prod.

I think my bitch is also 4 weeks pregnant. I am having her scanned on saturday. She is a little bigger around the middle, ravenously hungry and whinging for food whenever she smells it. Mind you, she is a GSPand THATS WOT THEY DO!! Also her nipples are quite big and pink. She is also more neurotic than normal.

My Dolly, who just gave birth on Sunday, disappeared for 4 weeks after mating! I would see her for breakfast and dinner, and when she needed to go out, but the rest of her time was spent in her bed! She became very sweet and affectionate, and very 'precious', not even running around when on a walk. Once she was past about 5 weeks however, she behaved more normally, and went out for a brisk run when she was eight and a half weeks pregnant!
Fingers crossed for you, Liz

Dime is now 4 and 1/2weeks. Today she started to pass a clear sticky discharge which I believe is another sign of pregnancy
- By Star [gb] Date 04.02.02 09:48 UTC
Had Dime scanned yesterday and 7 pups were seen. Her nipples are now like pink neon lights!
Any more news of your bitch magnolia?

My female pug is 4 weeks along in her pregnancy and I can finally tell. Her sides are swollen and her nipples are huge and pink. She has a discharge as well and has become very lazy. She has really slowed down. She used to walk me and now I have to pull her along. Watch your dog's discharge for anything strange. My dog just had her discharge tested and we found that she has E Coli and a Staph infection.

My bitch was mated 3 weeks ago and her eating habits for the last couple of days has become very picky, I know this can be a sign of pregnancy, but then maybe not! She is always clingy, she was completly hand reared, which is a reason why we think she has always been so, guess it could be just her way of being, anyway I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Thank you Marie for the article you sent me. It was very helpful. I have also started giving her yogurt everyday. She's doing much better and has been putting on weight. She's on antibiotics as well. Thanks for your support. I'll keep you posted on her pregnancy.

my sister mated her english mastiff dog to a english mastiff bitch 3 1/2 weeks ago.at the beginning ahe left his KC papers with them for a week so thay cud check him out .thay are naw saying that ther is no stains of pregnancy and that thay are moving . this all seems a bit dodgy to me can anyone help. Kath
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.03.02 11:09 UTC
It would be too early to confirm a pregancy at 3 1/2 weeks, even with an expert scan operator. the Stud fee is payable at the mating, for the services of the dog, not production of puppies. It is always best to have an agreement in writing. Usually a free return to the dog with that or another alternative bitch is usual if no puppies are born. It is a matter to be agreed before the mating. If the dog was unproven then the agreement would often be fee returnable if no pups.

brainless sud fee is pick of litter . it has tuck 3 weeks to contat them .she thas phond morning day and evening wich seems to me thay leve her alone all day. thay allso sed thay are not taking her to the vets. Kath

Hi, having the pick of the litter is always a bit of a lottery. I would think that it would be better in future to take a good sized stud fee and have a puppy - with a cash adjustment if necessary - from the litter if they turn out nice. Next time get a stud fee in cash at the time of mating. Make sure the dog owner gets the BRS from the KC to see if any puppies are registered to the bitch. If the bitch owners are members of their breed club, the secretary may know where they move to?

Just out of interest my vet can confirm pregnancy at exactly 21 days by feeling the uterus (from the outside), he doesn't say how many but just "yes she's pregnant" or "no I dont think she is" . He has never been wrong - but he is a bit of a star!!

thank you i will pass on this info. she told me she has not seen her KC papers and naw thay are saing that ther mybe a problem with them. i have told her to get a sud fee in future. i paid £500 at mating for the neo sud i uosed. kath p.s wot is BRS

Kennel club Breed Records supplement. this is produced by the kennel Club giving all the KC registrations, and other things like BVA health test details, for each group for each quarter of a year.

My Vet is quite good at palpation at 25 days, but says he cannot guarantee that a No will not turn out to be a yes, and that it is very dificult in big broad bodied bitches (which a mastiff should be). He was able to say 3 or so in my last litter which had four pups, which is a smallish litter for my breed.
- By westie lover [gb] Date 04.03.02 16:04 UTC
Hi Brainless, perhaps the breed makes a difference - mine being Westies are maybe easier to palpate than other breeds. I do find it difficult to address you as Brainless!! :-)

If you met me maybe you wouldn't, scatterbrain really, my choice of name when I first got the computer, as that is how I felt :D

Extra Cute Softies? :)
- By sam Date 04.03.02 19:44 UTC
English Cocker Spaniels.......no, there genuinley was no sign, i stripped the bitch out about 10 days before hand, figure like a pipe cleaner & behaving as per normal. (She had been mated but scan showed nothing & as no signs, it was assumed negative!)

My dog went into heat in April and I tried to breed her with a basset, she is a boxer/basset. I just got her back and they said they did not see them tie. The male tried to mount several times, and they were together at night. I know it is really early but are there signs I can look for. Her nipples are really big still and so are other parts that enlarge while they are in heat, they don't seem to have gone down, are they supposed to? She is always cuddly and affectionate so I can't tell that way. She has also been laying on her belly more than normal. Please give me any insight you can. Thanks

A boxer/basset? :(
- By tigerangel [us] Date 24.05.03 00:20 UTC
She looks like a basset, she is short and has the basset look but doesn't have the problems that bassets typically have. Everyone that sees her loves her, both her looks and personality.
