Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / No Puppies :(
- By jellybean_oz [au] Date 07.06.04 01:59 UTC
Well Maisie just had her Ultra sound today, and There is no sign of Puppies,
I thought I saw about five but the Vet said it was her intestines.. :(
I have mixed emotions.. I feel sad but at the same time I am thinking it wasn't her time...
Any one else felt like this?...
Is it wrong to feel so upset?...

It's 3 weeks since my girl was mated and I feel so negative, she had an 'odd season' plus a discharge for 4 days recently, so I have this niggling feeling I won't be having pups either :-(

It is sad when your bitch does not take when you have put months of time and loads of decision making into the project. But I would try to think of it as not to be, there are all sorts of reason why what seems to be a good and normal mating produces nothing, sometimes nature does know best. Never mind you both have your bitch, happy and healthy, and there will be another time to try and who knows you may find an even more suitable stud next time, that will produce for your girl the best ever litter that there ever was ;)

I haven't had anything confirmed yet, but I tend to get VERY paranoid when my girls have been mated.  I will have her scanned next week, so will post with any news!

She is 'acting' pregnant, the vet assured me the discharge was either infection from the stud dog or just the tail end of her season, but you worry no matter what you are being told :-(

Only time will tell

Sorry Sharon, jumped the gun. Hope all proves well and that you have a lovely litter soon to run you off your feet.

Jellybean im so sorry to hear your news, but dont give up yet!!A friend of mine on here had the same result from her bitches scan but is now found to be definately pregnant im pleased to say,im sure she will be along soon to help put your mind at rest.Scans sometimes arent all that accurate(down to the scanner i would think)so there is hope yet.

Hi Jellybean
I had my bitch for a scan yesterday and she had the same result as your own.  No pups.
Oh well next time.

Joan

I know of two people that have been told by the vet that their girl wasn't pregnant by a scan.  One gave birth to a litter of 14 and the other is due on Friday and her belly is now down to the ground.  Personally I wouldn't waste my money on a scan I prefer to wait.  One of my girls is due on Saturday and at 5 1/2 weeks I woud have said she was having a phantom, but they have all now decided to come out of her rib cage and are on the slip way ready for departure.

Do you think that some of it is down to the ability of the person doing the scan?

My vet didn't seem to know what they were doing when I phoned to ask about getting a scan for my bitch.  They couldn't even tell me at what stage it was best for it to be done "the vet isn't too sure, he'll call you back!" and they wanted to charge me nearly £100 for the pleasure.  Therefore I decided to wait and see.

Curiosity is getting the better of me this week and I would LOVE to know how many she is expecting.  Although judging by these boards there is no guarantee.

I think that you are right jackyjat.  It is all down to the person doing the scan.  If I would have taken my girl at 5 weeks to them they would have probably told me she wasn't pregnant because now I know they were all hiding in her ribcage.  I have heard so many stories of vets getting it wrong these days I don't have much faith in them when it comes to this.

the man who does my scans is really a horse scanner. He carries a portable scanning machine round with him, which is good as he calls at our home to perform the scan for which he charges only £15. He doesnt always get the number correct (theres always more!) but I think its certainly money well spent.

i prefer to wait, i was very surprised when tess' pups were born i was expecting around 6-7 as she wasnt very big but she had 10 sadly 3 were still born, but the remaining pups are very naughty 61/2 month old labbies, my own one Bruce is just starting on the stage of 'ill do things in my own time not when you tell me' we cant wait til he is in the full grown 'kevin stage' especially as his mum seems to going through a second kevin stage :D
