CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF IT IS NORMAL FOR A KING CHARLES CAVALIER DOG TO EAT SNAILS AND MANY OTHER INSECTS AS IT WORRIES ME WHEN HE GOES QUIET.

                                                                  THANKS

This can be very dangerous, as they can pass on a parasite.  The lay term that I have herd used is french lungworm.

An Elkhound bitch puppy I bred had been spayed, and owners were watching her weight carefully in case it went up, and she was loosing weight and was very lethargic and excesrsise intolerant.  Turned out she had picked up lungworm from the snails she was eating and needed a course of Panacur, and has to have it every month, and slowly is reagaining her health.

Uncooked, no garlic or butter and still in the shell, not a good idea. Whole and unchewed they are no better than a stone and may as Brainless has said be carring a parasite.

Belive that something sheep suffer from is caused by snails, is this the same thing?

Sheep get liver fluke on pastures contaminated by snails - they're the secondary host.    As far as I know, dogs don't get liver fluke, but they can get this parasitic worm whose name escapes me (Google here I come!)

Actually, just had a look, and there are a few parasites which may be implicated in this, most causing a lung infection.    A warning - some of the treatments suggested involve ivermectin, which is a big no-no if you have a collie or something that may have collie blood in it.

Be very careful of snails or slugs as they could have been eating slug pellets. Also small mice that can also have been eating them.
