Hi everyone,

My former Stick-Man-Sam (now Twiglet as he has put on a "little" weight) managed by virtue of hardly anyone else turning up today at Southern Counties to finish third in Special Yearling :D The judge told me off for having treats in front of Sam's face while he was checking him over (didn't have any pockets and he saw them in my hand :( ) but what I wanted to know is, does a 3rd in Spec. Yearling for Band E qualify for Crufts? I've looked on the KC site but all it says on there is Open or Limit classes but I know that not long ago satincollie explained ALL of the qualification requirements and this was on there then. However, it was also noted that it was due to change and I don't know whether it has or not! I'm having kittens here as I know that both Sam and myself did abysmally today (plus he was the skinniest dog there :( ) but I should at least be in with a fighting chance of getting some weight on him before Crufts!

Please if anyone knows then put me out of my misery once and for all.

TIA, Helen and Twiglet Sam :)

I am wrong if you are in band E then it looks as if you have made it, ignore the rest of this Sorry to say Special Yearling is not a qualifying class as far as I know, so even coming 1st would not have got you to Crufts.

Just to clarify Jackie's slightly confusing reply :D - YES, you've qualified.

Thank you Jackie and M for your replies, you have just given my poor dog a headache through making me scream so loudly! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you :D I might even get round to thanking Sam, though the only thing that he did right today was turn up, lol. He really was a monster. I even bought some Rescue Remedy for the first time and dosed him up with that .... that's £5.95 that Boots owe me :D Don't care now, that's it, training for me and the Twig every day, no more jumping in the car to drive to the park for off-lead play everyday. We're now WALKING to the park and back. Get some Ibuprofen for my shoulders ... could use the £5.95 refund from the Rescue Remedy, lol :)

Thx again, you've made an old lady very happy ;)

In which breeds is Yearling a qualifier? I thought it was only Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, Post Grad, Limit and Open?

Edit: Forget that - found it!
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 04.06.04 16:06 UTC
LOL JG that is what I did.
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 04.06.04 16:11 UTC
All Band E breeds, specified on the KC website.

Sorry to be a damp squib here, but as the class was "special" yearling, I dont think it does qualify - see the notes at the bottom re "special" classes
- By Moonmaiden Date 04.06.04 17:10 UTC
Special yearling was added to the Qualifying classes last year for Band  E  breeds last year along with 1st in veteran  & is not a "special" class as such(like special open black & tan cavalier would be)

Moonmaiden,

We have Veteran & Special Veteran at our Breed Champ Show, does 1st from each qualify?  Or is only Veteran recognised?
- By Moonmaiden Date 04.06.04 18:47 UTC
Well I would think only one the Veteran but contacting the KC would be the only way to make sure & at least now they always give you a name :) so if they amke a mistake you know who to quote

It does count, honest guv, I spoke to the KC about it when the rules first changed and the 'special' is a bit of a misleader.

I agree but maybe it's because we used to have 350 dogs entered at Champ Show and they bearly get just over a hundred these days??!! :(
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 05.06.04 08:38 UTC
As we all know, it's about time all these societies stopped recycling the same judges year after year then, but that's a whole other can of worms :D

How's those gorgeous babies, Val?
