Christine you replied to Cazf re her worries and told her about Satin Balls, Have found the site and recipe but can you please tell me what total cereal is/to use. Recipe sounds wonderful, I phoned my butcher yesterday and ordered burgermeat, I asked him not to put additives or salt into mix, is this right? Also, although I feed Autarky, I have started seriously thinking about barf.  My dogs get chicken wings, chicken stock carcasses, bull hearts, rabits, tripe, trotters and marrow bones.  Older dogs are ok but should I supplement the pups (17weeks) with calcuim etc. All suggestions welcomed.

If you are feeding a your puppies raw meaty bones such as chicken wings there is NO need for any calcium supplementation at all.  Puppies on raw feeding eat exactly the same as adults but in different quantities. Either calculate 10% of their present weight per day or 2 - 3% of their projected adult weight per day.

There are lots of recipes for satin balls, here is one:

1lb raw mince
3 eggs with shell
1/2 pound soaked oats
2 large tablespoons of dark treacle
tub cottage cheese
tablespoon fish or hemp oil  (I would recommend fish rather than hemp oil)
mix altogether, shape into balls and feed throughout the day

Kay,sorry it has taken me so long to reply!
I was also stumped by "total cereal" It is the American name for breakfast cereal, any healthy cereal will do,such as all bran or a cereal from a healthfood shop,i was told to not use corn flakes, probaly because of the corn.

Thanks All, now for a good laugh and a freezer clearout. I left my order with the butcher for dogs needs and with this was order for 1.5 kilos of ground beef. Guess what was delivered. 15kilos. I really must improve my handwriting. Not his fault as he is used to me ordering large amounts of chicken, rabbit etc. but only got order for month last week. I started making the balls and threw everything into the magimix, have made so many now, that the magimix is overheating and cooking the meat. My dogs love these balls. I put a can of sardines in olive oil into one of the batches, is this ok?
