Hello
My Bichon has an allergy to house dust mites and storgage mites. She has Piriton, evening primrose oil and alfalfa, and I've also sprayed Indorex, but she is still scratching. I am going to the vet again tomorrow, but wondered if anyone has any other ideas. I did think about having the vaccines made up, but heard that it's very expensive and doesnt always work. Does anyone know how much they do cost??

Thanks

Jo

Have you considered consulting a homoeopathic vet who may be able to make up something for your dog.

I would recommend Fish Body Oils rather than EPO for scratching as it is a natural anti-inflammatory and is high in Omega 3s which the diet will be deficient in;choose one which is high in DHA/EPA and give around 1000mg per day, perhaps more if the itching is severe, you cannot OD on it. EPO is high in Omega 6s; I would also give Vitamin C as Ester C with bio-flavonoids and Vitamin E, the natural sort, it will say d-alpha-tocopherol on the label at around 400 iu per day.

Sorry don`t know but can give you a link to alternatives.
Click on remedies & scroll to about 3/4 of the page down. Also look under Allergies as well.

Do you have carpets in your house?  If so you may be better off with wooden floors.  Also make sure that you clean the dogs bed regularly.

I would say it's fairly safe to assume that dust mites are in every household   I believe its the mites' faeces that set off allergic reaction's - I would probably research environment management, maybe starting with asthma sufferers/web sites, books etc - How was this confirmed?  Did the vet do a skin scrape?  House dust mites generally dont live on animals!  How does the vet know it is house dust mites?
