WHY DO PEOPLE BREED THERE ANIMALS?IS IT FOR MONEY?OR LOVE?YOU HAVE ANIMALS FOR PETS DONT PEOPLE CONSIDED A ANIMALS FEELINGS WHEN THERE BABYS ARE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM.
- By michelled [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:14 UTC
flynns mum jess hates her puppies after about 5weeks! shes always glad to see the back of them!!!!
- By Isabel Date 03.06.04 12:15 UTC
No doubt some do it for money but the majority appear to do it for love.  Don't confuse human emotion with animals', my bitch loved her pups when they were little but when they left at 8 weeks she was glad to see the back of them and settled down with relish to her normal existance :)
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:22 UTC
IM NOT CONFUSING HUMAN WITH ANIMALS,BECAUSE WE ARE ALL LIVING CREATURES.DID YOU NOT TELL YOUR KIDS OFF (IF ANY)WHEN THEY GOT ON YOUR NERVES.
- By Val [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:23 UTC
This can't be serious!  I'm not wasting any more of my time.
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:32 UTC

So why do you want to breed then ?????
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:48 UTC
no i was told it was better to have a litter first before getting her done, did i say i was going to make money or give the pups away,in responds to all the answer i ask again can i breed 2 dogs who live together, not being rude if there any breeder reading this can i have a simple reply not just people with dogs,
- By tohme Date 03.06.04 12:53 UTC
I think people have already responded that the myth that bitches would be somehow "better off" if they have a litter before they are speyed is exactly that, a myth, old wives tale, whatever you want to call it.

Why would having a litter be "better" for a bitch?  Using the same analogy are women "better off" if they have a baby/ies before they have a hysterectomy?
- By michelled [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:02 UTC
flynns mum & dad live together, but owned by different people,so yes they can!
- By SharonM Date 03.06.04 12:20 UTC
Aren't you the same Kelly04 that on the General section was just talking about breeding her two pet yorkies??
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:27 UTC
YOU OBVIOUSLEY CANT READ CORRECTY.I ASKED CAN YON BREED THEM IF THEY LIVE TOGETHER,NOT I AM GOING TO BREED THEM.
- By John [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:21 UTC
Here's a thought for you. Without people breeding dogs they would become extinct in one generation, At least in most countries in the world.

This post sounds very much like the ramblings of PETRA to me :(

THE DODO BIRD BIRD IS EXTINCT BUT WE DONT GO ON ABOUT THAT.PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE, THAT WAS AN ANIMAL.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:37 UTC
The dodo was made extinct through being hunted and eaten, just like the passenger pigeon. Nothing to do with breeding pets.

I'm not sure what your point is, but in the wild, young animals (especially carnivores) are generally driven away by the mother (or occasionally father) when they are old enough to look after themselves. They tend not to all stick together like humans do!

Also, please can you take your CAPS LOCK off? It makes your posts very difficult to read, and is considered to be 'shouting'. Thank you.
- By tohme Date 03.06.04 12:39 UTC
You know you mentioned about being told off when children get on their parents nerves......................................?

Do you get shouted at a lot? ;)

As for extinction, there may be good reasons why an animal becomes extinct, I can think of a few individuals that should have become extinct already :)
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:55 UTC
THOME you still havent answer the question how do no the mother will not bond with her pups after they grown.
- By tohme Date 03.06.04 13:00 UTC
I am not sure I understood your question; if it is

"How do we know that the mother will not bond with her pups after they have grown?"

The answer is hundreds of years of observation.

Most "mothers" of all animals, pets or otherwise raise them until they ready to breed again or when the animal can fend for itself.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:00 UTC
Kelly because anyone with any experience of breeding pups would know that. If you are thinking of breeding I would forget it, the breed you are talking of breeding need an experienced breeder if they are to get through the process without unnecessary danger.
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:05 UTC
JACKIE  not being rude but that is not right, becuase our puppy came from a top breeders kennels in wales who said,it will be okay becuase they are not from the same family.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:11 UTC
Kelly, you seem to be asking many different questions. When you ask 'can a dog and a bitch who live together mate', then the answer is yes, they can. They are perfectly capable of it. If you're asking should they be allowed to, then the answer is usually 'no'. Not if you want to produce healthy, good quality puppies. If you want to produce possible rubbish, then that's your decision.

But be very clear on one thing. Bitches love their puppies when they are small, but by the time they are a few weeks old they do as much as they can to avoid them. They are very pleased when the pups go to their new homes.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:12 UTC
Sorry Kelly what are you asking me, you said that a dam would miss her puppies and you have been told that is not so. Don't know what the breeder said but if you are saying that it is OK to breed 2 dogs just because they are not related then I do not have much regard for that breeder.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:14 UTC
Kelly, I think the person who told you that breeding them 'because they are not from the same family' knows very little about genetics and art of breeding. Was it a kennels with lots of breeds, or were they specialists?
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:19 UTC
JEANGENIE,yes they are premier yorky puppy specialist as my paper disclose
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:23 UTC
What is their affix? Then we can see how well their dogs fare in the showring. Then everyone will know they know what they are talking about. I wonder if they're the 'premier Yorkie specialist' that I know about! ;)
:)
- By michelled [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:40 UTC
i dont really understand why one moment you are weighing up the pros & cons of letting your bitch have a litter,& now you seem really agressive on here???

i dont breed because at the moment i do not have the time or money to devote to it,although id love some puppies around. one day, probaley many years away,id like to breed purpose bred working sheepdogs/border collies for obedience competitions. but this wont be until i have more time, more money, & i am well known enough in obedience so that people really want dogs of my breeding. im very interested in bloodlines & am lucky to have a good friend who is a expert & a inspiration in that field.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 03.06.04 12:31 UTC
The title talks of breeding pets, the question of animals. Very different, if farmers did not breed animals we would all have to eat just vegetables or is that what the question was about.  Do wish people would be clearer in what it is they are asking, questions as wide of this do not deserve an answer. May be this is a case of halftermitus

- By Jackie H [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:09 UTC
Answer to what Kelly, and do bear in mind that vets and not specialists in dogs. You will get a better answer here if you are prepared to take it.
- By kelly04 [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:15 UTC
i am sticking around,so why are  people on here giving different answers
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:16 UTC
You are being told the same thing by all the different people, Kelly! You just keep changing the question!
- By tohme Date 03.06.04 13:01 UTC
I knew I should have looked under the bridge.................................. :)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 03.06.04 13:07 UTC
Not sure about this one, Lokis Mum, think it may be a young person who has fixed ideas and is getting upset because they are finding no one agrees with them, the ideas being put forward are certainly not those of anyone who knows anything about dogs or animals, lets hope they stick around and open the mind a bit.

.....surely a genuine dog lover knows why people breed from their pets (as opposed to puppy farmers that is) ? We wish to perpetuate the animals we love and share are lives with, we hope along the way to improve the breed and make it possible for those who share are love of dogs to have access to happy healthy puppies. :-)
